Haseer heritage is an inspiration the founders Hande Elmaagacli and Gizem Araz took from the tradition of handwoven bracelets that has been inherited as a family tradition from a grandmother to a granddaughter. This tradition of matting bracelets dates back to centuries before when the lasting love of a mother to a daughter was handwoven in the form of jewelry and gifted as a token of love and has been followed by generations. This unique technique of handwoven jewelry is used only in Black Sea Coast of Turkey. The founders are from that area and have inherited these jewelry forms from their grandmothers. ‘Haseer’ in Turkish means matting and hence the name Haseer Jewelry. You can buy handwoven jewelry from their website www.haseerheritagejewelery.com.

History

The history of handwoven jewelry dates back to the 17th century during the Ottoman Empire or Turkish Empire as it is referred to. During that phase, the armours of the soldiers were handwoven meshes. For those who help high positions had sword handles beautifully designed and crafted. The migrated Caucasus craftsmen who settled near the Black Sea area in Turkey were the actual developers of this beautiful art work. Their help enabled the hand weaving technique into the art of jewelry making. Till today these jewelry products are handwoven only and are therefore more valuable and unique. The patent for this jewelry belongs to the Turkish Jewellery Association and hence are produced only there.

Production of Handwoven Bracelets and Handwoven Earrings

These bracelets and necklaces consist of 2 parts the buckle and the cuff. Local women weave the cuff part and for a bracelet of 18-20 cm it takes about 15 days to weave. The wires have specific width to enable weaving and special tweezers are used to weave them. The width of the gold and the silver wires are different. Post the weaving the mesh is taken to the shop for the buckle to be set. This buckle is specially designed for these handwoven bracelets. After the buckle is set with the lock, the buckle is then embroidered. Here is where you find the skill of the craftsmen. The design can be as per the customer or any other art form like a floral design. It can also be designed with beautiful diamonds. Now the necklace or bracelet is ready to be worn.
