From a city zoo in San Jose to the mountainous regions of Pakistan to the savannahs of Africa, it's easy to see that traveling leads to very different places. Nonetheless, there are some basic tips that will help ensure a good trip no matter where it is that you are going.

Maintain a happy attitude while traveling. Things can get rather tense at airports. Tempers run high. The people who work there often have a hard time of things. Keeping a positive demeanor about you, at least outwardly, will likely improve your experience. A negative attitude will seldom get you anywhere.

When traveling by air, there is no longer any reason to carry a separate toiletries bag. All of your liquids and gels will need to fit into a Ziplock bag regardless. That bag will already be sealed, and will be smaller and lighter than any bag designated for the task.

If the hotel chain you will be staying at offers a loyalty program, join up. Even if you're only planning on staying one or two nights, there are many perks to these programs. On the top of the list, is the fact that loyalty members are less likely to get bumped, if the hotel overbooks.

Before booking, do all the necessary research. Find reviews online about the places you want to go. See if you can talk to folks who have already traveled to such locales. Doing all the research you can will help you learn what to expect and what things to do after you arrive.

When travelling on a road trip, make sure you bring a bag with you for trash. Even people who don't normally eat in the car will during long road trips, especially if you don't want to stop to eat and add more time to your trip. A trash bag can help you keep the mess and clutter to a minimum.

If you're traveling with kids, buy each child their own disposable camera. Tell them to take pictures of anything they find interesting. If they fill it up before the trip is over, you can get them another one fairly cheap. Then they'll have something to remember all the things they liked - you'd be surprised how different the pictures your kid takes are from yours.

No matter where it is that you are going, these common tips should help you in your travels. While each country has its own idiosyncrasies, the advice here should be kept in mind no matter where it is that you go. Now that you've got the advice, all that's left is picking the destination!
