Up until now, you’ve spent your entire life in a state known for its brutal winters. For nearly half the year, your home state is buried beneath a mound of snow, caked in ice and plagued by bitterly cold temperatures. Truth be told, you’ve never been crazy about winter weather. However, at this point, you’ve essentially accepted frigid winters as an inevitable fact of life. Although you hardly look forward to the onset of wintertime, you’ve grown adept at gritting your teeth and slogging through it.

Having recently been presented with the opportunity to relocate to a warmer part of the country, you’re preparing for a major adjustment. Sure, you’re no fan of winter, but you’ve never lived in a different kind of climate. Fortunately, adjusting to life in a state that enjoys year-round warm weather is much easier than you think. After suffering through a number of untenable winters, moving to a state synonymous with gorgeous weather shouldn’t faze you in the least. Before packing up the moving van and charting a course for your new home, make sure to tend to the following preparations.

Find a Highly-Rated AC Repair Service

In many warm weather states, a home’s central air conditioner is its inhabitants’ foremost line of defense against the hot weather outdoors. That being the case, a broken air conditioner can spell trouble for your family. However, by familiarizing yourself with a highly-rated heating and cooling service, you can ensure that any AC mishaps are remedied in a timely manner. Seasoned repairmen will be able to promptly swap out defective components, clean the AC’s interior and break up any exhaust clogs.

Stock up on Sunscreen

One of the primary upsides to living in a warm weather state is being able to spend a substantial amount of time outdoors. Whether you enjoy outdoor workouts, backyard barbecues or long walks, you’ll be able to enjoy your favorite leisure activities all year long. However, if there’s one caveat to this amenity, it’s the immense amount of sun exposure to which you’ll be subjected. This can give way to such afflictions as sunburn, sun poising and, in extreme cases, melanoma. To protect yourself from the undesirable effects of UV exposure, make a point of applying sunscreen to any uncovered areas of skin whenever you spend more than 15 minutes in the sun. Sunscreen application is particularly important during the sun’s peak hours – 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Ditch Your Old Gas-Guzzler

You may have needed a heavy-duty sport utility vehicle to safely navigate your home state’s snow-covered roads, but now that dangerous winter weather is no longer a concern, it’s time to bid farewell to your old gas-guzzler. In addition to not being particularly fuel-efficient, these vehicles can be very expensive to maintain. A standard-sized sedan or compact car will serve you nicely in your new state and save you a substantial amount of money in gas costs and vehicle maintenance.

Moving to a new locale often entails a lengthy adjustment period – particularly when your new home features a dramatically different climate than your previous state. Even if your new state has much nicer weather than your hometown, a few pangs of homesickness are entirely expected. To help yourself comfortably adjust to a warm weather state, remember to find a reliable AC repair service, protect yourself from the sun and invest in a fuel-efficient vehicle.
