Removing AVG Secure Search

AVG secure search is a tool provided to you to have safer search results. However, safety comes with the drawback of reduction in speed. AVG secure search tool can be uninstalled by following the steps we are going to discuss. However, it is important to note that the technique for removing it is different for different browsers and operating systems. Only the more famous browsers and operating systems are taken into consideration here.

Removing AVG secure search from your browser:

  1. 1. Google Chrome:

a) Open chrome and click on settings button located at the right of your address bar and click on the ‘settings' option.

b) In this section, choose ‘on start-up' and select ‘Open the new tab page'.

c) In this section, use the drop-down menu to select your preferred search engine other than AVG secure search.

d) Restart Chrome.

  1. 2. Mozilla Firefox:

a) Open Firefox and click on the options menu and then click on options.

b) Choose the option ‘search'. And change your search engine from AVG secure search to your default engine.

c) Restart Firefox.

  1. 3. Internet Explorer:

a) Open internet explorer and click on ‘Cogwheel button' located next to the address bar. Now select ‘Internet options'.

b) Click ‘settings' in the section called ‘search'.

c) Right click on the option ‘AVG secure search' and select ‘remove'.

d) Close your internet explorer.

Uninstalling AVG secure search from your PC using control panel:

These steps are to be followed once you removed AVG secure search from your browsers.

  1. 1. Windows 7 or Vista:

a) Open Control panel, and select the option ‘Programs and features'.

b) Now select ‘uninstall a program'.

c) From the list of programs, select AVG secure search. Right click and select the option ‘Uninstall'.

d) The uninstallation process directly redirects you to AVG website with detailed instructions.

e) If Uninstallation is unsuccessful, contact AVG. AVG contact number is provided on AVG tech support.

  1. 2. Windows XP:

a) Open start menu, and click on control panel.

b) Choose the option, ‘Add or remove programs'.

c) Double-click on AVG Security Toolbar, AVG Safeguard Toolbar or AVG Web Tune-up from the list of applications. The uninstallation process will be launched.

d) The process redirects you to the AVG website with detailed instructions on uninstallation of AVG secure search.

e) There will be an error message during the uninstallation if AVG secure search is not changed as your default browser. Thus, you need to make sure you follow all the steps mentioned in the article depending on the browser you use and the operating system running on your computer.

  1. 3. Windows 8:

a) Click on the lower left corner of your computer screen and search for control panel.

b) Click on Uninstall programs. Or you can click on programs and features and then select ‘uninstall programs' in it.

c) Make sure you change AVG as your default search engine in your preferred browser.

d) Select ‘AVG secure search' among the list of programs and right click and press uninstall.

e) The detailed steps are directed to you on the AVG website upon pressing the uninstall button.
