If your Amazon Echo won’t connect to WiFi, you’re not alone. Whether you’re setting up a new Echo Dot, Echo Show, or any other Alexa device, WiFi connectivity issues are a common frustration. Fortunately, most Echo WiFi problems are easy to troubleshoot and fix.

For Alexa Helpline Or Customer Support

This guide walks you through all the steps to get your Echo back online so Alexa can respond to your commands and control your smart home devices.

Why Won’t Echo Connect to WiFi?

Before jumping into the solutions, it's helpful to understand the most common reasons your Echo won’t connect to WiFi:

  • Incorrect WiFi credentials

  • Weak or unstable signal

  • Router compatibility or configuration issues

  • Echo device software glitches

  • Temporary network outages

  • Firmware update interruptions

Identifying the root cause helps you fix the problem faster.

How to Fix an Echo That Won’t Connect to WiFi

Follow these steps in order—from simplest to more advanced—to restore your Echo’s connection.

1. Check Your WiFi Network and Password

Make sure your WiFi is working with other devices (like your phone or laptop). If those devices can’t connect either, the problem may be with your router.

Also, ensure you’re entering the correct WiFi password in the Alexa app.

  • Tip: Echo devices are case-sensitive to passwords and cannot connect to networks that require browser-based login (like hotel WiFi).
2. Restart Your Echo Device

A simple reboot often solves connectivity issues.

  • Unplug your Echo device from power.

  • Wait 30 seconds.

  • Plug it back in and wait for the blue light ring to finish spinning.

Once restarted, try reconnecting via the Alexa app.

3. Restart Your Router and Modem

Sometimes, your router—not the Echo—is the issue.

  • Unplug your router and modem for 60 seconds.

  • Plug them back in and wait for all lights to stabilize.

  • Then try reconnecting your Echo to the WiFi.

4. Move Echo Closer to the Router

If your Echo is too far from the router or blocked by walls or furniture, the WiFi signal may be too weak.

  • Move the Echo to a more central location.

  • Keep it away from thick walls, metal surfaces, and electronic interference (like microwaves).

Use the 2.4GHz WiFi band if available—it has a longer range than 5GHz.

5. Reconnect Echo to WiFi in the Alexa App

If Echo is offline, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Alexa app.

  2. Tap Devices> Echo & Alexa> [Your Device].

  3. Select Change next to WiFi Network.

  4. Put the device in setup mode (press and hold the Action button until the orange light appears).

  5. Follow on-screen instructions to connect.

If prompted, re-enter your WiFi password and wait for confirmation.

6. Update Echo Firmware (If Possible)

Echo devices need an internet connection to update automatically. If your device won’t connect during an update, it may freeze.

  • If you can briefly connect via a mobile hotspot, Alexa might download the needed update and reconnect to your regular WiFi afterward.

  • Tip: Leave Echo connected overnight so it has time to download updates when idle.
7. Factory Reset Echo (Last Resort)

If none of the above fixes work, try a full reset:

  • Echo Dot (3rd/4th Gen): Hold the Action button for 25 seconds until the ring turns orange.

  • Echo Show: Swipe down> Settings> Device Options> Factory Reset.

Set up your device again in the Alexa app.
