Simple Air Compressor Repair Guide
Posted: Mar 25, 2015
Air compressors are essential pieces of machinery, used in many different industries. They are highly durable, able to endure as long as 100,000 hours of frequent use, which is more than 15 years. While smaller devices for compressing air are used for powering paint sprayers, nail guns and inflating tires, they are used in business and industry are much more powerful and have bigger roles. Regardless of the type of air compressor you use, there are several common problems that happen with any compressor type. Luckily, these common problems are easily checked and repaired.
An air compressor requires three main functions for a proper and effective operation. Your devices for compressing air must have a power source, be able to contain pressure and control the flow of compressed air. If there is an issue with any of these functions, repair it as soon as possible in order to avoid bigger damages and more expensive repairs, regardless of whether it requires a complex or simple air compressor repair.
One common problem with air compressors is an electrical system malfunction. You will know there is a problem with it when your devices for compressing air doesn't turn on immediately. First, ensure if your air machine is wired and connected correctly. If it is, find the reset button on the back of the motor housing. If your air compressor doesn't turn on even after the reset, check if the outlet is properly working. If everything is working properly, your compressor has internal electrical issues and a simple air compressor repair is not an option, but a professional's task.
When the engine of your air device doesn't start up immediately, it may be because of excessive air pressure for the engine. The simple air compressor repair solution for this problem is to find the stop valve and pull it out in order to release pressure. If after this the engine starts, you need to make a slight upward adjustment on the pressure regulator to ensure reliable consistent future starts.
Another common problem with air compressors is the unloader valve, but it is a simple air compressor repair. In fact, the unloader valve is not fixable and when it fails, it is being replaced. Since it has a big role of the operation of your air compressor, it must be replaced timely. To replace the unloader valve, first disconnect it from the device. Use two open end wrenches to open the compression fitting and pull the valve out of the fitting. Next, disconnect the wiring from the old switch. Finally, install the new unloader valve and tighten it up good with a wrench.
