SourceHow To Leverage The Power of Open Source Tools for Productivity

In this generation, you don't need to break the bank or take a loan to build a company. I am a witness to this, all I did was simply to leverage.

The word leverage has more power than what you think. It means to "make use of", "maximise" and apply the resources you can gather towards achieving a load of tasks you couldn't have achieved easily alone.

You don't need more time, you need more people. You don't need to learn all the skills, you need to collaborate. By knowing how to utilize even the free tools, you can achieve great results.

MY JOURNEY IN BECOMING PRODUCTIVEI was a broke and naive hustler, so much that I did all I could to make money. I spent a lot of precious time watching YouTube videos on "how to", yet I had no results. Often times, I get a break through idea to work with, I get excited and pick up my pen to write. I did this for a long time, and nothing changed. I wasn't wrong all along, I only had the wrong orientation.

THE FIRST LESSON I LEARNT IS TO READ WHAT SUCCESSFUL PEOPLE READ AND DO WHAT SUCCESSFUL PEOPLE DO

"Behind every master piece is a master". A master is one who has taken time to study the terrains to understand the frameworks that delivers results. Looking at Elon Musk, the world's wealthiest man as at the time of this article, the difference between how he thinks and how I think is in the difference of what he knows. You cannot know beyond what you read about - but you don't have to read about everything.

What you really need is a portion of the bulky data. If you want to be a game developer, read about successful game developers and trends. If you want to be a world recognized brand, read about how the world recognized brands evolved and learn from them. It is assured that this is something you need in order to become productive.

KNOW WHAT YOU NEED

The second step I took was to highlight all that I needed to build my company. I built DocFather PDF with this same strategy that I am sharing, and how?

I identified what the end result is. For me, it was to offer a free productivity tool, which is valuable to those who can't afford to pay for monthly premium packages to use simple tools, in exchange for something - traffic.

NOTE: Productivity is beyond all the tools and people that you have at your disposal, it begins with the quality of your management ability.

I did not opt for a loan, you shouldn't either if you don't have any experience in what you are venturing into. This is not playing safe, rather, it is simple risk management.

I needed a team; a front end developer, a back end developer, an IT expert, a network engineer, a marketer, and a manager to mention just a few. However, like I said, I couldn't afford to hire a team, and I didn't have experienced colleagues to partner with. What did I do?

I simply spent my nights gathering data on the terrains, then I found some free tools that could solve my problems. My team is a free AI tool that handled almost all the whole product development cycle.

WITH AI TOOLS AT YOUR REACH, YOU CAN ACHIEVE ALMOST ANYTHING YOU WANT

Open source tools such as ChatGPT, Deepseek, Gemini AI can serve the role of a professional adviser or consultant. The internet has a whole lot of free tools, whose owners are willing to offer a lot to attract traffic, and you should maximise them.

In a week, I launched my first product with my knowledge, and AI tools.

FEW USEFUL AI TOOLS TO LEVERAGE ON

WHAT IF I NEED A CAPITAL TO START?You don't need to be perfect to start, just start. The internet started as a single web page from Tim Berners Lee, he didn't wait to have millions of computers and servers before he started, neither should anyone.

If your need is capital, which is unavoidable, these are few ways to leverage:

START WITH A JOB OR A MEANS TO EARN: if you don't have access to a loan or funds from family and friends, I suggest that you start a real work. This way, you not only make money, but you also gather practical knowledge, and valuable experience that money cannot buy. This is my testimony - I had served in different places, felt the pain and outgrown the challenges that workers face in their various workplace. After this period, you will value your visions.

COLLABORATE AND HELP OTHERS: One method of raising funds for your start up is collaboration and volunteering. When you genuinely help others, you position yourself in the spotlight of opportunities that you cannot foresee. In the process of developing my first product, I found the relevance of networking. Almost all my skills were sharpened throughout the period when I made no money with them, because I was offering value for free to people who would support my cause.

PITCH TO INVESTORS: Some angel investors are sitting on idle wealth that you need for your business. This is not usually an easy task, as it requires patience, time and a lot of effort. Scrap emails online, make efforts, get seen, get heard, talk about your passion and offer a ROI (Return On Investment) in every pitch.

Due to the length of this article, I can't cover the pitching art. If you need help in pitching for ideas to people and organizations, kindly reach out to me or take your time to study about it.

10. Rocket.Chat: a web based, open source communication platform for teams.

FINAL NOTEThe advantage you have is access to the internet, access to tools, to people, to resources, to books, to AI tools, to open source tools and countless databases. Why don't you make use of what you have, leverage on everything to get what you want.

The journey of a thousand miles begins with you, not a foot step. If you don't take an intentional approach, you won't arrive at a calculated destination.

I recommend some free tools to help in your pursuit. If you want to build a website or a landing page, a static one, use no code platforms such as Replit AI, ChatGPT, Copilot AI to generate the website code, upload it to github, use a free host such as vercel or netlify to deploy your page, leveraging on their free plan and get your domain cheap at GO54 formerly known as WhoGoHost.

If you need traffic, leverage on viral platforms such as tiktok, YouTube shorts, Facebook reels to get visibility for your brand. This is beyond creating just any content, you will really need to work things out based on your need.

I hope you got value!
