Lots of LCDs are being produced today and this means lots of LCD waste will be gathered in the nearest future. Since the first LCDs were produced till now, many homeowners have either switched from the old one to new ones or they have changed to the latest brand or have even completely abandoned their LCD for other products made of LED. As a result, an enormous heap of LCDs is being collected each year. If care is not taken, this vast collection can lead to its own measure of health hazard. This is one of the factors that make LCD recycling a must. It will help prevent the associated problem of electronic waste and their possible emissions, which can, of course, harm the environment.

LCDs are not the only electronic waste obtainable that can harm the environment; other electronic products like computers, USB devices, CDs, DVDs, cell phones, fax machine and even printers can constitute electronic waste and can harm the environment if, not handled well. The benefits of LCD recycling are innumerable. As hinted earlier, it helps to protect the environment from hazards. The LCDs are made using all sorts of components and these components do release emission or radiation to the environment. Funny enough, some of them actually let out such emission even when they are not working. As a result, leaving such waste around will lead to accumulation of such radiation, which may affect plant, animal and human lives.

Some of the emissions can have a damaging effect on human lives. Some can out rightly destroy plants. In human, they can lead to one form of cancer or the other. When they do not kill plants, they can get their fruits contaminated and this can poison any human or animal that consumes such fruits. One of the least of the environmental problem caused by the LCDs and other electronic wastes is that they can litter the environment if not well disposed of. But with LCD recycling, the improperly disposed LCDs can be put to better use. This will also help to remove the problem of emission and its attendant complications.

Aside the environmental benefits of LCD recycling, there are also loads of economic benefits in it. As hinted above, many of the LCDs and electronics that had ever been made are composed using different materials. Many of such materials are very precious. Recycling the electronics will make it possible to recover these valuable materials so that they can be put to better use. Some of the materials that can be retrieved from the recycled LCD are zinc, palladium, platinum, silver and even gold. These are precious metals, you will agree. You will also agree that it is economically unwise just to let the materials get wasted when they can actually be put to better use. This is exactly why it is imperative to get these electronics recycled; if not for any reasons, at least for the economic benefits. The extracted materials can either be reused in making other products or they can be sold in the open market.
