Getting around Europe -train, airplane, trams, car, bus etc.
Posted: May 04, 2015
Many times I was asked what is the best option to travel around Europe? Which kind of transportation should be chosen in order to not to spend too much money and in the same time to organize well the time of the trip. What is interesting, not only foreigners ask this questions, but also do Europeans ask. Generally there are a lot of options to travel within Europe and thanks to open borders it is even easier and faster.
Everything depends on the place or places where someone wants to get to. Even though Europe is very small continent, there are too many interesting places to visit that it is highly recommended to organize the travel very well and to do this before it starts. Why before? Except of the very obvious reason – saving the time – meanwhile you organize yourself at least 2 months in advance, you can find very good deals that will make your trip really cheap. As it was mentioned before, depending on the place or region that you travelling through, will depend the type of transport that is the best to choose. Let’s check it.
If you want to move between countries that are not very close to each other, for instance Germany and Spain, you should think about low-cost airlines. Usually if you by flight tickets about 2 months before your planned trip date, you can count on a very good prices. Airlines such as Hungarian Wizzair (www.wizzair.com) or Irish Ryanair (www.ryanair.com) have a huge number of destinations and good offers. Sometimes you can even find flights for 12 Euro round trip. Just you need to be a good "hunter". The same happens with transportation by bus. The only difference is that your trips should be a little bit closer, "within the region". For example in Central East European country you can look for very cheap tickets for Polski Bus (connections within Poland and to 5 European capitals) and in United Kindgdom Mega Bus (within UK and many foreign destinations) and many others. For people that like to do something "different" it is recommendable to check Euro Rail www.eurail.com where you can purchase tickets for trains working between many European countries. You can find there also many good packages like Global Pass or Regional Pass that would allow you to travel within selected part of Europe.. Last but not least website that would be recommended is Compare it Versus where you can compare modalities of travel, for example train vs airplane where you can find very detailed comparison of mains of transportation in Europe.
It doesn’t matter how do you travel, what matters is with who you do this and how you chose your destinations. There is no the perfect way to travel, everyone is different and each of us has different expectations and experiences. Just some options can be recommended and described only to give you necessary information in order that you make a proper choice for you. Anyway, there are a lot of options in Europe that can be chosen but everything depends on your expectations and destinations.
