Cats are some of the cutest creatures on earth. They're very playful with most people they meet and have a friendly disposition. If you've wanted to own a cat, but weren't sure what you have to do to take care of one, then this article is just what you need. Give it a look.

Choose a high quality food. The key to a healthy cat starts with nutrition. Take a look at the ingredients label. If you look at most "popular" commercial cat foods, you may be surprised to see the top ingredient listed is corn. Cats are carnivores, so look for a food with a real meat as the top ingredient. You may pay more up front, but these foods are often more nutritionally dense, meaning your cat eats less and the bag lasts longer.

Cats can use their claws to destroy furniture and other parts of the house. A kitty tower can really save your furniture. Teach your cat to scratch this instead of the legs of a couch or sofa. Sooner or later, they'll love to use it.

Do not allow your cat to stay bored all of the time. Cats should have a lot of exercise and playtime. Sadly, this is overlooked by many cat owners. Cats who get bored can actually become depressed or display other undesirable behaviors. Give them toys they can play with, play with them yourself, or at the least give them room to exercise. If you have an indoor cat, provide a kitty gym for them to climb on or a scratching post.

Cats love to much on grass and plants such as catnip. There are plants however that are poisonous to cats. Chrysanthemums and holly are beautiful and common around the Holidays, but can be very toxic to cats. Other plants that are toxic or lethal include lilies, rhubarb and daffodils.

Normally cats are nocturnal animals. Because of this, night time is when they are most active. One way to deal with a kitten's playful activity at night is just to shut your door. They should stay away from you at night and then they will not be able to jump on your feet.

As stated before, cats are extremely cute. Their playful and friendly ways will have anyone warming up to them in no time. Now that you know what to do after reading this article, you can have a cat of your own. Remember the information and have a fun time with the feline.
