The Chinese Style Set You Need to Know

Pity the fool who thinks super street-style moments are happening only on the paved sidewalks of New York City or Los Angeles. Good outfits know no global bounds, so it's high time we turned our attention to China. This summer's China Rich Girlfriend, sequel to Kevin Kwan's must-read Crazy Rich Asians, is bringing the country's fictionalized style set back into our lives. While we can't Insta-stalk the privileged women Kwan writes about, we can applaud the pitch-perfect sartorial choices some of said characters are based on.

Veronica Chou

If you read the book, here's a tidbit: Chou is the inspiration for Araminta Khoo, according to WWD. She's a member of a wealthy Chinese family that brought fashion into her life early: Her father, Silas Chou, made his fortune in textiles and working with mega brands like Michael Kors and Tommy Hilfiger. Her lifestyle requires a lot of black-tie moments, but her social feed confirms she's got weekend style down pat too.

Seen here posing at Chanel's fall '15 Coco-themed brasserie, Chen is accepted as China's most popular woman—she has over 70 million followers on the country's version of Facebook, Weibo. Suffice it to say she's plenty influential—the numbers work out so that 5 percent of China's 1.4 billion people are following her.

Zhu Zhu

The former MTV star has a trend-friendly wardrobe and runs with a stylish pack: Her Instagram account shows chummy snaps of her with Stella McCartney from Monday's Met Gala. And while her formal game is on point, so are the ladylike day dresses and tailored separates she routinely picks. If she looks familiar, thank Netflix: She's currently in the original show Marco Polo.

Bao Bao Wan

In China, like here, nailing something major like a MAC Cosmetics campaign confirms you're a style stud. Jewelry designer Wan did it (see it here), allowing her fans to get some of her standout punk-meets-princess style. Her pedigree means she's also been privy to couture for a while. She's the granddaughter of Wan Li, a former high-ranking Chinese politician.

Feifei Sun

China's most famous model might be Liu Wen, but Sun isn't far behind. Recent editorial work has included gracing the pages of Vogue and during the last Fashion Week, she walked the runway for labels like Chanel, Givenchy, and Dior. She's a regular at fashion parties and always looks spectacular in sleek, no-fuss numbers.
