Martial art is an ancient fighting art but today this art has become a sport. It involves fighting with muscle power. People of ancient times practiced this art on mud grounds where there is no fear of getting injured.

Some of the martial art moves make the player to land on surface. These are called landing moves and practicing these moves on hard surface or floors could be dangerous as landing on a hard floor could injure the player. Anyone can practice martial art and today it is easier to practice the ancient fighting skill.

How to practice martial art at home?

Choose the art that you want to practice and buy a practice DVD of that art. Determine a time for practicing the art and practice the moves on a safe platform. Safety should be the first thing in your mind. Remember that you are practicing a fighting art where you would learn beating opponents. If you are not practicing on a safe platform then you can get injured.

For martial art training, you need three things. First thing is determination that you have. Second thing is accessories like dress and headgear and third thing is a safe platform. If you go to a martial art school, you would find that the players are practicing on a platform that is responsive. The platform is made of ply and rubber. It is responsive as it has springs and it is safe as it has foam.

Safe platform

If you are thinking that you would need making a customized platform at home then you are taking safety too seriously. If your home allows, you can turn a corner into an exercise bay where you can practice martial art moves without any fear or apprehension. Or you can buy a taekwondo mat.

What is this mat?

It is a portable and foldable platform for exercising. Set it on your home floor and exercise on this platform. It is responsive and also it provides comprehensive protection against slip and fall accidents. You can jump, roll and even land on the mat without fearing of getting injured.

A taekwondo mat would cost you anything between $150 and $250 depending upon size of the product. A large piece would be expensive as it would provide more room for exercising. But you should buy a piece that is just perfect for your needs. Buying a large or too small mat would serve no purpose.
