Posted: May 19, 2015
Tub to Shower conversion is a sought after service nowadays by homeowners who have an old bathtub at home and want to do away with it. This reason why this service is getting popular by the day is because it provides an excellent opportunity to homeowners to get rid of their old bathtubs and either remodel their bathrooms or get new showers instead. The way it works is very simple:
- The homeowner calls up Safe Showers and seeks an appointment with them for a free estimate.
- The installation expert of Safe Showers visits the homeowner and does an assessment of their requirements. This is a session in which the homeowner explains in detail about what exactly do they want to be done with their old bathtub and what needs to be brought in as a replacement.
- The installation expert provides them with various options that relate to:
- Either remodeling or getting a new shower
- Different style options that are available
- The process of installation and how will it be carried out? Time and costs involved in the process. Usually the process of conversion takes 2 days.
- Follow up process, next steps and subsequent visits.
- Warranty
- Price and schedule
- When the homeowner accepts the estimate, the process starts.
- On the first day the old shower walls and the sub-walls behind them are broken down to the studs, the old bathtub is removed and the sheet rock in the shower area from floor to ceiling is taken off. The whole area is then cleaned.
- The Master Plumber then replaces the old 1 ½ "drain with a 2" drain and installs a new scald proof valve with all new plumbing in the shower area.
- The wall studs are then straightened and a wet area fiber-cement backer is installed replacing the sheet rock. Wooden blocks are installed in areas between the studs as the safety bars will be placed here the next day.
- Finally at the end of the first day, the heavy duty solid surface shower pan is installed in a bed of concrete.
- On the second day the new ½ "thick solid surface wall system is fused to the fiber cement water-proof backer with a special silicone sealant. Special floor-to-ceiling, inside and outside corners are set, together with the built-in soap dish and shower caddy. Finally the two safety bars are placed strategically and a ¼"thick tempered glass sliding shower door is installed.
- The plumber then installs the chrome valve cover shower stem and shower head followed by installation of the ¼" tempered glass shower door, valve cover, shower stem and head.
- As a final check, the shower is test flooded to ensure that there is a fast run-off of water to the drain. The house is then cleaned.
With this tub to shower conversion service, homeowners are able to remove their old bathtub and replace it with a new shower that is not only attractive, but also durable and extra-large and provides easy access for bathing.
