What is Yoga and why Should We Practise Yoga?

YOGA is a Sanskrit word, which means to do, to add, to join, to attach. The main intention of practising yoga is to connect with the spiritual entity and serve the purpose of life successfully. According to many Indian scriptures the main intention to practice yoga is to attain MOKSHA, which is translated as liberation and to establish a permanent connection with the deity or spiritual entity. A male who practises yoga is referred as YOGI and the female practitioner is referred as YOGINI. The approach to practice yoga is not based on any religion. Although the yoga is originated in India, it has been practiced by hundreds and thousands of members worldwide.
The yogasanas was developed by many sages living primarily in the southern parts of India. The sages observed the nature and earth atmosphere very closely and by studying the different aspects of the earth atmosphere they’ve developed a set of asanas, meditation through which a person can gain calmness and adjust his body to the nature changes. The most holy script "The VEDAS" consists of instructions and incantations which helped people to practice yoga as developed by the sages. The word Yoga first appeared in the ancient text "RIGVEDA" and the fourth book of Vedas i.e. "Atharva Veda" mainly discusses about different postures of yoga and health cures done using medicinal plants. Hence, even today, Indian ancient scriptures play a vital role in understanding various health related topics.

Niyama: This stage of Yoga mainly preaches about how to treat ourselves. This stage helps purifying your body, to find happiness in what you do, developing self-discipline and be devoted in your god.
Asana: These are the postures of the yoga. Here a person does different types of exercises that keep his body and mind healthy. Normally, asanas involves sitting and standing exercises. Just the practice of Asanas can benefit a lot to human health. One can practice Asanas at any point of time and at any age. There is not restriction to practice any kind of yoga.
