Are you a dog lover, who wants to bring home a bundle of joy? Are you now facing a dilemma after getting to know so much about different types of dogs as to what to choose? If yes, then stop thinking about the various breeds of dogs you have researched and give a thought to the terriers! These are sure to kill you with their cuteness and enthusiasm and many come in a compact size. These dogs love to dig, hence their name (terrier to do with going to ground 'earth' and terra firma). Its in their name for a reason - they hunt and dig out animals and that is what can lead to a mischievous nature around your home if you dont look after them right with exercise.

They are known to be mischievous in nature but that is exaggerated if they are bored or not trained or socialized. Terrier dogs come is various sizes and shapes, they are also known for their intelligence, which makes them great trainees, though the can be distracted and need consistent training. You will have to give them space to burn their energy or their mischievous nature will dominate their personality. A little mischief will only make your dog happy by the end of the day, so that is why long off lead dog walks are always recommended for this class of hunting dog.

When it comes to Terrier Dogs, they are well known for marking their territory which can be any patch of earth or vertical surface. They protect their space furiously and if other animals of people approach their territory, they can bark with all their might in order to stop and warn them of their trespass.

If you are planning to bring home a terrier dog, then make sure that your property is properly fenced, these mischievous dogs are known for being really good escape artists, you sure don’t want your dog to be lost; keep an eye on your bundle of joy. Proper fencing means that it is high enough and that they can't squeeze through bars or dig under the fence.

Terrier Dogs love digging and thus they are one of the major hunting Dog breed groups. Their original purpose was to find prey hiding beneath the earth, such as moles, rats, badgers, foxes etc. Terriers are grouped into three basic types – the working terrier (the hunting type), the Toy terriers (these are bred down from the larger terriers and are kept as companions). Note although these terriers are small, they are still true to their nature and instincts so they still need a lot of exercise and socialization. The third group is that of the bull terriers which is basically a combination or a hybrid of bulldogs and terriers.
