Modern life has made our lives easier, but it has also brought new health problems. During the past half-century, a number of deadly new diseases have affected humans. Diseases can also be passed between people during sexual contact. Chlamydia is one of the sexually transmitted diseases caused by the bacteria called Chlamydia trachomatis. When transfused through sexual contact, the bacteria can affect the urinary and reproductive organs. Chlamydia can infect both women and men.

The worst part of a chlamydia infection in men is that the symptoms never show up in most of the cases. If men do get symptoms, the most common symptoms of chlamydia in men are as follows:

  • Men may combat pain or a burning sensation while urinating
  • Release of pus or watery or milky from the penis
  • Tender or swollen testicles swelling around the anus

Chlamydia is not limited to the genitals, but depending on how it is transmitted, chlamydia symptoms may also include following symptoms:

  • Rectal discharge
  • Rectal pain and bleeding
  • Throat infection
  • Conjunctivitis (eyes)

All these symptoms may or may not happen all the time, in a continual way. They can be random and occur in undetermined time periods. These are likely to appear within 1 to 3 weeks of initial exposure. Now you all must be thinking that what could be the causes of chlamydia. As discussed earlier that chlamydia is a sexually transmitted infection, so it may be transmitted by one of the following reasons:

  • If you have unprotected vaginal sex with an infected person
  • If you have unprotected anal sex with an infected person
  • If you have unprotected oral sex with an infected person
  • If you have genital contact with an infected person.

If you have recently had unprotected sex with a new mate or with someone you doubt may be infected, then you should get tested. You can order a chlamydia test kit and take your test at home.

There are numerous ways to avoid the occurrence of chlamydia by following suitable precautions while entertaining sexual intercourse. Condoms greatly reduces the risk of becoming infected. You should avoid douching as it lowers the number of good bacteria. Also regular screening for people in high risk lessens the chances of transposing the infection. If signs of chlamydia in men is not treated, it can result in testicular swelling, pain and even infertility.
