The Doomsday Book gives the earliest reference of Bramhall where it is referred to as "Bramale". During this time, the manor was included in the Hamestan Hundred of Cheshire too. A description of Norbury, Cheadle and Bramall is also given in the Doomsday Book and all of these places now lie in the Metropolitan Borough of Stockport. Before the year 1066, the value of Bramhall was listed as thirty-two shillings and by the year 1086 it was only five shillings.

Cheshire’s name was derived from an early name of Chester and was first recorded as Legeceasterscir. Although the name of Cheshire first appeared in the year 980, the County is thought to have been formed by Edward the Elder somewhere around the year 920. In the year 1875, Bramhall Cheshire became a part of the rural sanitary district of Stockport Rural and in the year 1894 this became Stockport Rural District. A few years later in 1900, this parish was abolished and became the Hazel Grove and Bramhall urban district and civil parish. This district got abolished in the year 1974 under the Local Government Act 1972, and the district was given to Greater Manchester and then was combined with other districts to form the Metropolitan Borough of Stockport.

An example of the fourteenth century Cheshire building such as Bramhall Cheshire is the Bramall Hall, which is situated in an area of twenty-eight hectares of parkland. Built in the 15th century, Bramall Hall is a classic example of Cheshire Black and White houses. It was expanded in the year 1590 and then further expansion was done in 1609 to give it the shape of a quadrangle. However in the 18th century, a side of this quadrangle was brought down and the restoration of the house began extensively in the year 1833. The Borough of Stockport owns it now and is open throughout the year for visitors. Ladybrook river flows in the park towards Bramall Hall and Cheadle. Close to the border of Cheshire towards the south of the village is Bramhall’s sporting club known as the Bramhall Cricket Club.
