A Road Less Travelled For Entertainment

It was a usual Monday afternoon, and while I was enjoying my sumptuous lunch in a restaurant with my colleague, I observed a tall, dark man, setting up a bamboo stand with a rope just across the street. Standing next to him was his wife and a small girl, dressed in a colorful Rajasthani dress. Within moments the small girl climbed up on that structure and started balancing herself on the rope while the man started to beat the dholak for pulling the crowd.

I was surprised and shocked at the same time, thanks to the cops nearby who stopped them in between. Unfortunate, but realizing the journey we all took years ago, I experienced the change we have undergone. Our means and media of entertainment have definitely gone through a huge transition. In this age of rapid information and strong digital dependence, we certainly have become futuristic in our approach where Ultra HD television and smart phones have become our prime source of information and entertainment.

All this has compelled me to pause and look back at the journey taken so far!

Our World in black and white.

Television from the beginning has always amused, entertained and informed people about the world outside. Somewhere it has become an essential part of our daily life. I still remember eagerly waiting for the 4 pm Sunday movie aired on DD National, while we all sit back and enjoy the show, on our black and white TV. Until things got monotonous and the hunger for more was realized. But, we hardly knew that this was just the beginning.

Adding Colors to Our Entertainment.

In the Initial days, I still remember Indian multinational Videocon was the first to introduce (CTV) color television in the domestic market. The year was 1985, and since then the brand has set many milestones in multiple categories and that too at a very competitive price.

Color televisions continued for quite a long time and were considered a status symbol as these were expensive and had better clarity. Plus, it was the time of cable network, which took entertainment to the next level. Channels like Cartoon Network and Discovery were a favorite among kids, whereas Hollywood action movies were getting popular among teens.

Sports viewership too became a pleasure to watch with colors bursting from every corner of the stadium. In India where cricket is a religion, color TV truly proved to be a blessing for the fans. Also, while technology was still changing at the turn of the millennium, it was the joy of watching everything in color that ruled the imagination of the audiences before any major technological breakthroughs occurred.

Design and Quality does Matter!

The year was 2005 and people were impressed with new entrant in this arena. It was the time of LCD TVs which was a sleeker version of the then color TV but with better clarity and features. However, by the time it would completely set its market, full HD and Led Tv were already in the picture. These had better high definition picture clarity and amazing sound quality. Some of the higher ranges even came with a personalized home theater, which made the overall viewing experience simply astonishing.

10 years ahead, still wondering what the future beholds?

Well, the future is right here in front of us. It’s the age of advanced DDB LED TV (Digital Direct Broadcast) technology and the recently launched 4K LED TV which have already plunged into the market. These machines are equipped with the advanced features like Gesture Control, Face Recognition, Motion Sensing Gaming its like a genie in a bottle ready to make your wish come true.
