This year’s winner of the World Car Award was the Mercedes-Benz C-Class. Sweetening the win, the Mercedes-Benz brand took home World Luxury Car of the Year for its S-Class Coupe and World Performance Car of the Year for its AMG GT sports car. The brand also had a top three finalist in the other two categories. This many nominations, much less wins, for one automaker is rare in the 11-year history of the World Car Awards.

With its year-long schedule and stops at four major auto shows, the World Car Award is considered by many to be the top global automotive award. Out of 24 competitors, a list of twelve were named at the Paris Motor Show in October and highlighted at the Los Angeles Motor Show in November. In March, when finalists were named at the Geneva International Motor Show, the 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class emerged as the only luxury car on the World Car Award short list. It was also one of the three finalists for the World Car Design of the Year.

At the New York International Motor Show, the C-Class took home the coveted World Car Award. The Mercedes sedan earned 803 points while its closest competitor, the Volkswagen Passat, earned 753. Vehicles were selected by a 75-person jury panel of international automotive journalists from 22 countries. In a joint statement, the judges wrote that the C-class delivers best-in-class levels of refinement, luxury, safety, ride, and handling.

The all-new C-Class includes mid-size sedan and coupe editions. The C300 comes equipped with a turbo four-cylinder engine that cranks out 273 pound-feet of torque. For even greater performance, the C400 comes with a twin-turbo V6 and standard all-wheel drive. Driving enthusiasts will appreciate 329 horsepower with 354 pound-feet of torque. The new drive mode lets drivers change steering response, suspension settings, and throttle sensitivity. Green drivers will appreciate the idle stop system that saves fuel during city driving.

Winning the World Luxury Car of the Year, the 2015 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe gave the automaker its second consecutive win. The S-Class sedans took home the award last year when the World Car Steering Committee first introduced this prize. The S-Coupe out-scored its closest competitors, the BMW i8 and the Range Rover Autobiography Long Wheelbase.

The 2015 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe is both beautiful and fast. The turbo V8 delivers 449 horsepower and the incredible punch of 516 pound-feet of torque. Built as a smaller and sportier version of the well-received S-Class sedan, the S-Class Coupe offers a long list of luxuries including power-massage chairs and an advanced air-freshening system.

The 2015 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT beat the BMW M3/M4 and Jaguar F-type R Coupe for the World Performance Car of the Year. 2015 Mercedes-Benz AMG GT editions include a convertible roadster and a coupe with special gullwing doors. Drivers enjoy remarkable performance from the GT's 583-horsepower V8.

Named one of the top three green cars in the world, the 2015 Mercedes-Benz S500 plug-in hybrid was a finalist for the Green Car of the Year. In recent years, Mercedes-Benz has won two World Green Car awards for its Bluetec models.
