Augmentation with breast implant may not be feasible if the overlying tissue is thin or insufficient to cover the implants adequately. Composite breast augmentation combines fat grafting with implants to resolve this issue and create a more natural and softer look. The main advantage of this procedure is that it provides improved cleavage, volume and a natural contour. Fat grafting adds more size and fullness to the upper area. This method is advised for women with issues such as small, tuberous, underdeveloped and asymmetrical breasts and also aging, pregnancy and breast feeding related volume loss. It is also being used to correct complications following breast augmentation and reconstruction.

During the initial consultation, the surgeon discusses the patient’s goals in order to develop a customized treatment plan. In leading plastic surgery practices, advanced 3D imaging systems such as Axis Three and VECTRA are used to plan the surgical procedure and to provide customized results. These 3D imaging platforms allow the surgeon and the patient to visualize the possible outcomes prior to the surgical procedure, which in turn, will help patients take an informed decision.

Excess fat is removed from areas where it is abundant such as the flanks or abdomen via minimally invasive liposuction surgery. The extracted fat is then purified and processed to ensure fat cell survival. After the breast implants are inserted in the breast pocket, the fat cells are injected around or over the implant and shaped to provide a more natural looking, softer outcome. This procedure offers the benefits of two treatments in one procedure – an enhanced bust line with improved cleavage along with the body contouring benefits of liposuction at the donor site.

Minor swelling, soreness and bruising is typical. The patient may be advised to wear a compression garment for extra support and for the proper positioning of the breast implants. Pain can be minimized by taking the medications prescribed by the surgeon. It is important for patients to strictly follow the post-surgical instructions for smooth recovery. In most cases, patients return to normal activities within a week or two after the surgery. The benefits of lipoimplant augmentation include:

  • Improves implant results
  • Corrects deformities
  • Enhances cleavage and fullness
  • Addresses tuberous breasts
  • Improves proportion

To be a candidate for composite breast augmentation, a woman should have enough fat to harvest. An experienced cosmetic breast surgeon can determine your candidature for the treatment. Only a skilled surgeon can offer the desired aesthetic results. Treatment in an AAAASF-accredited surgical practice is important as such facilities would meet strict national standards for equipment, operating room safety, personnel and surgeon credentials.
