If you are the kind of family that loves the great outdoors and needs to keep busy on your holidays, consider booking one of the adventurous family activity holidays offered by specialist travel companies. Activity holidays can focus on just one activity or can combine several different ones, depending on what you and your family wants. You may want to pursue something you already know you all enjoy, or you may want to introduce your children to to some new and exciting experiences. Below are some great ideas for adventurous family activity holidays.

Family Fun in Canada

How about combining an exciting outdoor adventure with a little culture? If this sounds like something your family would enjoy, you should consider heading to Canada, where you can begin by enjoying a couple of days soaking up the cosmopolitan feel of the beautiful city of Vancouver. Trendy neighbourhoods, great shopping and fabulous restaurants and cafes offer you the perfect start to your holiday. Once you've settled in, head off in search of Jericho Beach or English Harbour, where you can embark on a sea kayak trip, guided by a local expert. You could also treat the children to a taster paddleboard lesson, or set out on a boat excursion for a once in lifetime trip to sight the Orca whales.

Younger members of the family will love making their way across the magnificent Capilano Suspension Bridge, which is just minutes from the centre of the city. Here, at this complete British Columbia experience, you can enjoy a historical, cultural and adventurous experience. The views from the bridge are pretty spectacular too.

Speaking of views, the Grouse Mountain Skyride that towers above the Douglas Firs offers breathtaking vistas of the Pacific Ocean, the snowy mountain peaks, and far across the city. North America’s largest aerial tramway will take you to the magical Peak of Vancouver, where, at the Refuge for Endangered Wildlife, you can see the resident grizzly bears.

Once you've soaked up the city experience, it's time to head out into the real Canadian wilderness. Flying into Port Hardy, you can fly on (by helicopter) to Nimmo Bay, to stay in the unique hydroelectric powered cabins, which float on the water. Only accessible by air or water, you get a real sense of being at one with nature and the children will be in awe of the true isolation of this beautiful location, where you can see bears and go paddle boarding with porpoises.

Canada is a truly complete destination for family activity holidays; the ability to combine a touch of city culture with a wilderness adventure makes for a fulfilling and exciting experience for all.
