Wall Tapestries – How to Get the Most Decorative Value from Them
Posted: Jul 06, 2015
In case you are planning on making a wall tapestry a part of your home’s decorations, here are a few tips to help you ace the task.
Pesky fold lines
Whether or not you will have to deal with this issue will depend on how you actually buy the tapestry – from a brick and mortar store or online. You see, when you have a large sized tapestry delivered to your home, there will at least be one fold line that is created to facilitate easy transportation of the object. And before you hang the tapestry up on the wall, you will definitely want to remove any of these creases.
To remove any fold lines in your tapestry, use a steam iron and iron the back side of the wall hanging until the fold lines are gone. Otherwise, if you don't have a steam iron, take a regular electric iron and with a damp clean cloth (cloth that the color won't bleed) and place the clean damp cloth over the front of the tapestry where the fold line is and iron at a moderate heat (NOT HOT) until the fold line is gone.
Structure
Most wall tapestries come with standard additions to ensure that they are easily hung at their final display location. They are always lined on the back side for providing extra insulation against any damage from the wall behind. They will also have a rod pocket or several loops which will be used to hang the tapestries from the wall. Many tapestries come with a bottom rod pocket as well that is eventually used to ensure that they hang straight from top to bottom. Homeowners usually combine tapestries with decorative hanging rods to make the entire ensemble more elegant and beautiful. And for that extra flair, you can also add a couple of tassels on either side of the wall hanging in the colours of your choice.
Loops or rod pockets?
This is a question of experience. If you are buying a wall tapestry for the first time, you might want to go with a wall tapestry that has a hanging pocket instead of hanging loops. The reason for this is if the construction of the loop hanging tapestry is not done correctly, after time you might see slight curves inward between the loops of your tapestry.
