Cloud computing is at very nascent stage in Indian subcontinent. Though India is one of the top five largest economy and the fastest growing economy in the world, it is hardly considered within last five market for Cloud Service Providers. A huge economy with booming enterprises is also not enough to attract Cloud service providers. India as a country lags in infrastructure and power generation. Its stringent political decision making process makes it less lucrative for enterprises to shift to Cloud. Its a 1 billion USD market and is poised to grow with faster government initiatives. These factors have demotivated Cloud companies in setting up their data centers in India unlike China. But, these drawbacks has also initiated other means to establish local cloud service providers with their own data centers to cater to Indian market only.

Top Indian Cloud service providers are InstaCompute from Tata Communication, SimpliCloud from Netmagic, eNight from ESDS, CtrlS, IBM SoftLayer, CISCO India, Sify. Virtual Private Servers (VPS) from go4hosting and znetindia.com. These cloud computing companies data centers are located and distributed all over India. Despite India being not a preferred location for data centers, but, service providers evolved to meet Indian client requirements by setting up in India. 50 million of the enterprises in India are startups and small businesses. These enterprises are very wary about securing their confidential data resources by not letting it to get hosted outside India. Also, they prefer the provider to be physically located for better communication and reliability. Indian market is evolving and getting matured slowly with the growing challenge from the outside competition.

Primarily, all cloud service providers in india provide bare minimum features unlike the global players like Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure. The features include scalability through load balancing, storage, CDN, security and integration facility for hybrid cloud form with global cloud service providers. Cloud services comparison between service providers like Sify Cloudinfinit, Amazon Web Services, Netmagic can reveal basic differences between Global and local leaders in Cloud Computing. One of the major differences could be cloud hosting setup within India where Sify servers are based out in Bangalore and Mumbai, AWS not at all present in India and Netmagic in Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai. Features most in demand by enterprises working in Indian environment are Integrated network offerings across primary and DR cloud setup, hardware based firewall and load balancer per customer, Disaster recovery facility in India availability, hybrid cloud setup, support for both virtual and dedicated compute capacities as part of cloud stack, tape backup services with off-site fireproof vaulting, provide MPLS network service, 2 factor authentication integrated with cloud stack, hardware appliance based IDS/ IPS protection layer per customer.

Cloud provider comparison can be measured under same parameters when the cloud providers offerings match the requirements based out for enterprises operating in India. Cloud Infrastructure service is a low margin business and need scale to make actual profit. Global Cloud providers like AWS were not much keen on establishing there data centers in India. But, with changing scenario and increased adoption of cloud by Indian enterprises, global players are tempted to setup shop in India too. Whereas, other global cloud service providers like IBM SoftLayer, CISCO have already become the first mover advantage in this cloud computing race.
