Today, one of the most popular flooring options available in the market is vinyl. Vinyl sheet flooring generally comes in the form of rolls; thus providing a seamless look. Also, since there are no joints, these floorings are completely impervious to damage from water.

An ideal choice

There are numerous types of vinyl floorings. Be it a woody look or natural stone finish, the product offers its customers with a wide variety to choose from. Also, the colors that these floorings come in, allow you to match it with any décor without much ado.

In addition to the different styles, its durability, versatility and resilience makes it an ideal choice for any part of your house; from kitchen to living room to dining area and so on. It is so cost effective that you can install this type of flooring in your entryways, bathrooms and laundry rooms as well.

Another advantage of sheet vinyl flooring is that, it resists scuffing and abrasion pretty well, ultimately saving you a lot of time, money and effort. Its property to repel moisture protects staining because of spills, thus making it easy to clean up.

Better the quality, higher the priceHowever, the cost of vinyl floorings is directly proportional to its quality. Better the quality, higher the price. Though the material is cheaper than many other varieties, the quality that you chose will define the price of the product. A low quality vinyl flooring can last for a period of 10 years. Whereas, a high quality vinyl may last for as long as 30 years. This is because, all vinyl floorings come with a wear layer, where the more expensive vinyl generally has a thicker wear layer than the cheaper versions, providing more durability.

Taking careComing to the care and maintenance, this type of interior flooring can be easily taken care of by regular sweeping and mopping. Do this regularly and the flooring will remain in good shape for a longer period.

However, just like other variants, issues do come up related to defects with this type of flooring. Sometimes, these problems are related to poor maintenance and care on the part of the homeowner, but, more often, they are the result of improper installation. Hence, make sure that you get it installed from a well-known provider to avoid such problems.

Post installation, temperature and time are two important factors that play an important role in deciding the durability of the product. For the first 24 hours after the installation of the new vinyl flooring, all the seamed areas should be protected. The seam sealer should not be walked on and the temperature of the room should be kept at around 68° F, at least for two days after installation to allow the adhesives to set properly.

Rolling heavy objects on a new vinyl floor can compress the vinyl and adhesive. Once the adhesive sets up, any compressed marks will become permanent. Five days is an adequate amount of time to wait before moving furniture or any other heavy objects, such as dining table on the new vinyl floor.

Also, before placing chairs and other furniture on the floor, check the condition of all their casters or rollers to be sure they are in good shape and will not scratch or damage the new vinyl. Replace any worn casters or rollers. If any of the furniture has metal or sharp edges on their legs, install some adhesive felt pads to their bottoms to protect the new floor.
