Paris is a big city comprised of different neighborhoods. The French capital started out as a tiny hamlet and steadily grew over the centuries. There are 20 arrondissements or administrative districts in Paris and each arrondissement has smaller neighborhoods. Many Paris apartments for rent are found in these arrondissements. That is the good thing with Paris apartment rentals – proximity to the best attractions in Paris that enables visitors to easily get around town.

The first arrondissement in Paris is where everything began. It is where the earliest settlers in the city resided. This was called the Ile dela Cite and it was the ideal location for trade and defense centuries ago. Today it is where some of the most famous landmarks in Paris are found, like the Notre Dame Cathedral and the Sainte Chapelle. Aside from these historical landmarks, the Ile dela Cite also has the Marché aux FleursetOiseaux, a flower and bird market.

The third arrondissement is where the Marais is found. A tourist can get a closer look at the historical ties of the city to the Jewish community, as well as the remains of the French aristocracy. Many of the gorgeous buildings in the community have been made into boutique hotels and apartments. With charming shops and bistros, tourists can hang out in this neighborhood after a tiring day of sightseeing.

The fourth arrondissement is where Ile Saint Louis is located. Though this district is dwarfed by the first arrondissement in terms of visitors per year, the fourth arrondissement is captivating on its own. The Ile Saint Louis is primarily a residential area, but many tourists prefer to stay here because of its welcoming atmosphere. It is also the home of arguably the best ice cream shop in the entire city – the Berthillon. Tourists love to stroll around the island because it is much quieter than other parts of Paris. Travelers who love historical sites can go to the building where renowned scientist Marie Curie lived, right at the Quai de Berthune. Ile Saint Louis is also dotted with charming shops and restaurants.

There are other arrondissements that are worth visiting but the aforementioned spots are the most popular and frequently visited by travelers in Paris. Likewise, these arrondisements have their share of Paris apartment rentals. Tourists that want to save on accommodation costs but still be near Paris attractions should consider staying in Paris apartments for rent.
