Much more than just a traditional lime plaster, Morrocan Tadelakt is a plastering technique that has been used for thousands of years on walls, bathrooms and hamams, to today be used for a variety of uses. Originating from the Arabic verb "dlek" meaning to rub, knead or in other words to caress, the end results of the technique are pleasing on the eye and long lasting. Having gained popularity in France and all over the world for its luxurious, soft finish and varying colour, the Tadelakt technique is also the only plaster that can be used on floors, for example, to bestow a Morrocan style. Highly versatile, this is a technique that can be used indoors on walls and floors, outdoors on patios and walls as well as applied to furniture and other decorative pieces such as washstands, vases and lamp bases etc.

L’Atelier Pittoresque offers clients the opportunity to decorate their homes with Tadelakt whether their house design projects call for restoration, renovation or are new building projects using the talents of artists such as Jamal Daddis. Born in Marrakech and based in France since 1991, this artist has come to be known for his incredible lime painting and decorative plastering techniques - such as Tadelakt - to beautify interiors with stunning results.

Having taken the technique one step further, this Tadelakt decorator uses Tadelakt plaster techniques in France to create objects and projects that are inspiring which has led to him sharing his knowledge in Tadelakt seminars which Atelier Pittoresque France hosts both in France and Morocco. Offering workshops designed to suit participants’ needs and projects that range from beginner to intermediate through to master class workshops, the Tadelakt technique – as well as other techniques involved with zellige and platre – are taught with the intention of passing on incredible interior design know how. Themed trips also take place both in France and abroad where participants have the opportunity to watch and learn age old techniques up close. In order to increase awareness and publicity regarding these age old techniques, Atelier Pittoresque has also published publications that pay respect to age old plastering traditions from around the world, thus keeping these ancient traditions alive in our modern day age.
