The name “Rajasthan” conjures up visions of forts and palaces, deserts and national parks. Rajasthan tourist places are all about luxury, lifestyle, grandeur and richness of a state which has not lost touch with its beautiful culture. Every city in the state has something wonderful to offer. Jaipur, the land of Maharajas, boasts of elaborate architecture and breathtaking views. Pushkar, famous for the ‘Pushkar Camel Fair’ is an experience in itself. Udaipur is popular for the blending of military architecture and Mughal style in its monuments. The grand havelis of Alsisar incorporate the finesse of traditional Rajput architecture, beautiful sheeshmahal, opening into Courtyards which was once used by the ladies of the haveli. The fort of Mandawa dominates the town with its painted arched gateway adorned with Lord Krishna and his cows while the palace houses exquisite paintings, amazing mirror works and a no of antiques. The havelis here are popular for their depiction of traditional Rajasthani women and Europeans wearing stylish hats and other Victorian finery. It would appear that the legends of this historic land were captured in the murals and frescos of its forts, temples and cenotaphs.

Hotels in Mandawa are much like an oasis with properties overlooking the desert and giving a glimpse into the beauty of Rajasthani rural life while complimenting the same with the best of modern luxury, comfort and style. This city was made a thikana in mid 18th century by Bhojraj Ji Kasubsub clan of Shekhawat Rajputs. Initially the place was called ‘Mandu Kabas’ or ‘Mandawas’ which changed eventually to ‘Mandawa’. The real lifestyle and grandeur of the times can be experienced by tourists checking into the havelis and palaces which have now been converted into resorts and heritage hotels. If you want to spend your holidays like a Maharaja or want to spend your honeymoon in an atmosphere surrounded by amorous pictures or just want to get acquainted with Rajasthani culture, this is the perfect destination.

Mandawa offers mostly the same dishes and cuisines that are prepared in other regions of Rajasthan. The Saadi Baati served with garlic chutney and dal churma is a popular recipe. Aaloo chutney wala served with rice or naan, Gatte ki Sabji, Dal Dhokli and Kaer Sangri are some of the most popular dishes of Mandawa and a must try for everyone visiting the region.

Like many places in North India, Mandawa has an extreme climate. The summers can be very hot upto 40.5°C (105ºF), whereas winters can be chilly and the temperature can fall below 10°C (50ºF). The best season to visit is winter (October ~ March).
