Higher education is pretty expensive in most of the countries, with government funded higher education institutions being few in numbers. The seats at the quality institutions funded by the government of the respective country are negligible with respect to the demand, and most students aspiring for higher education in their chosen fields have to resort to private or self-funded institutions.

There have been debates over the wide disparity of standards and quality in these institutions, especially regarding the faculty, laboratory infrastructure, administration and placement of students, once they finish their courses. Most of these private colleges and universities are degree-selling hubs, and are far from the benchmark set by statutory bodies. But there are a few private institutes that are even better than the government funded institutions by any standards. The catch is that they charge astronomical sums, which are beyond the reach of most students and their families.

The tier 2 or tier 3 private institutions, with all their flaws and affordable fee structure, are the places where millions of average students fulfill their dream of becoming a trained professional. Although not up to the mark set by the regulatory bodies, these institutions serve as an effective medium for giving reasonable placement assistance to the students.

Nonetheless, the fees charged by these institutions are not very insignificant. In fact, most students have to take bank loans if they want to take charge of their studies, or else depend on their parents and guardians for the majority of the fees. Many students resort to working in hotels, restaurants, bars or other sort of assistance on a part-time basis, so that they can manage a portion of the fees and their living expenses while studying in colleges and universities.

This type of activities, on part of the students, point to the fact that there is a huge crisis of decent part time jobs that are appropriate for students. After all, the type of work they select should be light in nature and put less tax on their bodies and minds. Also, it will be great if the nature of the job helps they stay near to their goal. In fact, an ideal part time job would add to the knowledge of the students, and the overall environment should be conducive to the academic pursuits of the students.

Thanks to the internet, plenty of such opportunities are present, by using which they can make money online. These jobs have been used as a way for assisting their families by numerous students and homemakers across the globe, and are a fine avenue of earning decent amounts on a monthly basis. According to the nature of the courses chosen by the students, a broad classification can be made:

Technical jobs: these online jobs involve freelancing as techies. The usual profiles are website designers and developers, computer aided designers, freelance programmers, etc. Students in the STEM subjects can find it easy and interesting.

Non-technical jobs: these jobs involve copy-writing, editing, reviewing, data entry and the likes. Basic language skills and common sense will suffice, although a flair for literature, a good business sense and knowledge of spreadsheet software will be helpful.

Online tutoring jobs: This is also a lucrative option, since you can guide school students over the internet. You can choose to stay within your subject or specialization, if there is a direct link between your specialization and the requirement of the school students.

This way, students can earn money from home or hostel and support their higher education.
