Email is a business tool and so is online chatting. There was a time when business managers were used to get updates on their phones and SMSs. Now the technology has changed and so are their tools.

Let’s discuss the tools managers can use to manage their projects

Email

A manager can get daily reports from his team members through emails. At end of the day, the team members can compile their reports and send to their manager. The manager can see the mails in his inbox and download the reports from the mails. Advantage of emails is that the attachments remain safe in the mails. Email is certainly one of the best project management tools but it isn’t perfect.

Email can be a tool to connect to team members but it can’t provide real help. Also the manager would need struggling to find mails of his team members. But the biggest problem is that the daily reports would get accumulated in the inbox as attachments.

Intranet

There could be an application for internal communication among team members. It is easy to communicate through an application. Also the reports can be sent through the app. It is certainly better than email as it connects the team in real time. Connection would be available only when the team members are working. Its drawback is that the manager would need downloading the reports and saving the reports on his computer.

Email and Intranet application would only facilitate communication but they won’t provide real help in project management. Managers could use emails and Intranet for communication but if they are looking for real help then these two tools won’t be project management tools.

An application for project management

Ideally there should be an app for management. What the app would do is it would bring the entire team to a place. The manager would be in complete control. He would enter project details on the application and also mention which team member is working on which task. The team on the other hand would upload their reports on the app instead of sending the reports to the manager.

The app would keep the manager connected to his team irrespective of the time and place. For instance, the manager can see how his team is doing from his home. In comparison to email and Intranet project management tools, an application is a better option.
