Posted: Oct 09, 2015
Indore is a city in the state of Madhya Pradesh that has been up there as a developed city but never quite reached in the ears of many people as a city where one would like to be in as a traveller. This article lightly highlights what Indore has to offer through its infrastructure and developments and its rich cultural heritage.
The biggest city in the state of Madhya Pradesh, Indore has a big impact as one of the most flamboyant cities in India. Though not given as much of a mention like Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore, still, it has its own way in impacting the commerce, entertainment, education and research not only in Madhya Pradesh alone but India as a whole. It is also considered the commercial capital of the state.
India has a great cultural heritage. Almost each of the 29 states in India has a story to tell about an event that happened on its soil, and Indore has plenty to tell. It is a city with infrastructures of the latest modern period to a rich long line of historic monuments. Educational institutions, churches, temples, resorts and hotels in Indore are some of the best in India. For instance, Indore is the only city in India to house both the Indian Institute of Management and Indian Institute of Technology, the two most prestigious chain of educational institutions in India. Indore also has a large array of historic sights and landmarks which is a must for anyone making a trip there to check out. Some honourable mentions are given below :
Mahatma Gandhi Town Hall - Located in the heart of Indore, this historic old town hall still is a major venue for exhibiting shows and events during the day and fairs, food stalls and various other events during the night.
Kanch Mandir - Studded with glass on the entire interior of the temple, this temple displays the artistry of the people behind building the temple. Still a place where devotees visit in plenty and pay homage to the Gods of the temple, you can just go and see the sheer beauty of the temple and be mesmerized even though you don’t want to pray.
Indore White Church - To enjoy a serene and beautiful time for sometime you should make your way through the meddling crowd over to the Indore White Church. One of the oldest church with appealing architecture and a beautiful garden up front makes this place a relaxing visit.
Lal Bagh Palace - Perhaps the nest best to royalty you can get. Experience the life inside the palace of a royal family with painting, decor and furniture all still maintained befitting a palace.
Sarafa Bazaar - Jewellery stores line by day and ultimate street food hub by night. The space around the closed shutters of the jewellery stores by evening is then taken over by the guys in their carts to open up their mini temporary stall. Food ranges from all parts of India although there is quite a bunch of stalls who make real authentic food in Indore. If you are a foodie and a street food junkie, think no more.
Like all other big cities in India, Indore too has a great transport connectivity. Its airport connects you to all metropolitan cities and other small cities and towns, whereas trains are available in abundance for distance as long as Kerala to Indore, which takes you more than a day to travel or Gwalior to Indore trains which are also the best way to commute within Madhya Pradesh and take only a couple of hours.
Indore is a fun place to visit or even stay. With all the facilities of a modern city available alongside being a part of the whole rich heritage experience is definitely worth it.
