Chikmagalur is a popular and scenic town in Karnataka. It is a nice destination for an escape into the proximity of nature and it is full of many attractions for the tourists. Read on to know about the places to visit in Chikmagalur.

Karnataka has a number of scenic destinations and Chikmagalur is one of them. It has dozens of places of attraction for visitors. The town derives its name from the folklore that ruler here had a daughter and he gifted this town to her as dowry. As interesting is this legend, so is the the Chikmagalur town. Full of sceneries and green landscapes, Chikmagalur offers a quaint and salubrious surrounding for a relaxed holiday stay. Here are some of the popular places to visit in Chikmagalur:

Mullayanagiri - This is a 2,000m high peak of the town and covered with vegetation and small grasses throughout. It is famous for its trekking trails. Arriving here kicks in the adrenaline rush for you and if you like adventure, this is the place to begin with. Mullayanagiri in Chikmagalur also provides a perfect spot for natural walks. On the top of this peak there is a Lord Shiva temple as well. You would find devotees trekking all the way up to pay a visit to the temple. Since it rains heavily during the monsoons, it is always better to avoid trekking during that period.

Kudremukh National Park - It is a bit away from the town, about 100 km. It is a nice national park in the pristine surroundings. The park is situated at a height of 1,800m and in the Western Ghats. The climate remains mild here and it is a vast park from where you can spot the tea plantations as well. Netravati, Tunga, and Bhadra rivers flow by here. The park is rich in flora and fauna.

Datta Peeta - In the Baba Budan Giri Range, Datta Peeta is a series of high mountain rises. It is a spectacular location with a lot of scenic spots to explore. There are three caves in Datta Peeta. Since there are burials of the religious oracles here and hence people visit Datta Peeta for offering prayers as well.

Kalhatti Falls - Experience the piousness and tranquility of nature near Kalhatti Falls. This is the site for excursion, picnic and enjoyment. There is a temple here with stone structures and idols. There is a rock garden as well.

Hebbe Falls - This is another waterfall that is worth visiting. The site is covered in thick foliage and dense flora. Around the Hebbe Falls are the scenic coffee plantations. This is a nice spot for some quiet time relaxing in the proximity of nature.

Kemmanagundi - It is an old summer retreat and a scenic place. The state’s department of horticulture looks after this place. It is surrounded by hills, mountains and valleys providing a nice view of the surroundings. There is a Z-point here which you can check out.

Coffee Museum - This is one of its kind museum and if you ever wondered about how the whole business of coffee is carried out, this is the place to check out. At this place, high quality coffee is evaluated by experts. Coffee pots, green berries, coffee beans, etc, are to be explored right here.

You can reach Chikmagalur by bus. If you prefer train journey, you can book tickets through online railway reservation and reach here by train which is definitely more comfortable. Chikkamagaluru is the name of the railway station here and it is easily accessible.
