Why Print in Color?
Posted: Nov 16, 2013
There are color and black & white printers in the market that are used to print copies of such paper products as business cards, posters, flyers, banners, books, gift certificates, awards, price lists, manuals, catalogs, hand books, direct mail, association directories, labels, tickets, packaging materials, and brochures. Black and white copies cost much less compared to color copies. So, why make a color copy and not a digital black & white copy?
You should go for color posters, banners, and other colored paper products because research shows that color collaterals and documents are 80% easier to read compared to digital black & white copy. You are more likely to attract customers with color copy because they will find the copy pleasing to the eye and reading will be easier.
Businesses should print client-facing documentation in color because this is more impressive. Companies that use digital black & white copy are seen to be misers by their customers and potential customers while some customers consider black and white copies to be substandard. This is dangerous because they could also perceive the company’s products/services as being substandard.
Color documents create a professional, premium, inviting atmosphere. Creating this atmosphere is advantageous in that you are more likely to get away with charging a premium price for your products/services.
If you want high speed and high volume copying, you have to invest in an expensive and complex black & white printer. There is no much difference between the cost of such a printer and that of a color printer. You cannot print color copies with a black & white printer, but you can print a black and white copy with a color printer.
It is a fact that color printers are more expensive, slower, and more complex compared to black and white ones, but you do not have to buy the printer yourself. You could outsource printing which is advantageous in that you get professionalism and consequently high quality color posters, flyers, and other products and you get to concentrate on running your business.
If you are in the architectural, engineering, or construction field, you should go for color copy because a 2009 AEC (architecture, engineering and construction) firm market study in Europe by USP Marketing Consultancy that surveyed the effect of color documentation in reducing mistakes, rework, and delays showed that color copies are more visible and clear and indeed help reduce mistakes, rework, and delays. Although they are more expensive (3 to 4 times the cost of black and white copies in Europe), the money a company saves in mistakes, rework, and delays (when net cost averted, status against schedule, change orders, and RFI cost project metrics are considered) balances this out.
You should go for color business cards, postcards, flyers, and other paper products because there are many colors to choose from, meaning you have a better chance of passing your message across. You only have black, white, and several shades of gray with black and white copies. The message you want to pass across in your color business cards, postcards, and other prints might not be so clear, especially if there are deep details.
