There is a plethora of sites and spots that can delight any first time traveller to Shimla. The city has a classy finish of the British Raj which is reflected from its various colonial structures and the English names given to the various streets and points. Jakhoo Hill

Situated at a height of 8000 feet, the Jakhoo Hill is the highest peak in the entire hill station and offers scenic views of the city and its luscious landscapes, thereby alluring many nature lovers and hikers. The famous Jakhoo Temple is also situated on this hill, which has the mammoth size 108 feet tall statue of Hanuman, its chief deity. This spot is definitely not for the faint hearted.

2. The Ridge

Located in the centre of the town, The Ridge offers spectacular views of the mountains and the Mall road beneath. The famous neo-gothic architecture of Christ Church attracts a lot of footfall to this spot and this place looks vibrant in the evening, with lights and live singing performances happening every weekend.

3. Viceregal Lodge

A scottish style built complex, which is also known as the Rashtrapati Niwas, the Viceregal Lodge was the main centre of the town and held important offices within. The majestic structure of this edifice is simply stunning. Today, it houses the Indian Institute of Advanced Studies.The surrounding gardens are just out of the world. 4. Chadwick Falls

Located at a distance of 7 km from the main city, the Chadwick Falls offers a breathtaking sight of the cascading water from the slopes of the mountains. The falls are a major source of water to the surrounding dense forest area, inundated with deodar and pine trees. For hikers, this 45 minute walk to the falls is simply awe-inspiring.

5. Anandale

This is the celebrity attraction of Shimla, for it was once the sports complex of the Britishers where they played cricket and polo. Today, this vast sprawling green land has been converted to a majestic golf course, which is infrequently also used as a helipad. The place simply looks stunning!

For lodging, if one is interested in fancy resorts, the main city offers some of the finest choices. Otherwise, there are also many cheap hotels in Shimla for a budget and pleasant stay.
