The Lenovo owned Motorola recently announced which of its phones would get the latest version of Google’s Android software for smartphones. The good news is that with a few exceptions, all of Moto’s X, E and G phones will get Android 6.0, more commonly known as Marshmallow.

The Moto X Play is bound to get a huge boost from this announcement as sales of the phone as well as accessories like Moto X Play cases and covers are already selling fast due to the great combination of features and practicality that the phone represents.

For everyone but the most feature obsessed power user or those that like smaller phones that are more easily pocketable, the Moto X Play may actually be the most compelling Android phones available on the market right now. Sure, it is a huge device and adding Moto X Play cases to the phone only adds to the size but it has a good screen to bezel ratio meaning that when you consider how much of the front of the phone is dominated by the huge 5.5 inch screen, the phone isn't actually that big. Those with tiny hands and small pockets may find the Moto X Play a bit too large to handle and even for people with larger hands the Play is too large to comfortably operate with just one hand.

However that huge screen is encased in a body that is not much larger than the phone itself and the body is intelligently shaped and curved at the sides to make the phone feel much smaller in ones hand than it actually is. The Play also gets Motorola’s water resistant nano coating on its components which gives the phone an IP6 rating for its ability to be submerged in water without sustaining damage. For people with active lifestyles, this makes the Moto Play one of the most compelling smartphones available today. Throw the Moto into one of the many tough Moto X Play cases and covers on the market and you have a phone that will withstand almost anything that you throw at it or even throw it at!

On the software side of things, the Play once again has a lot going for it. The X comes with Motorola’s almost stock version of Google’s Android, in its 5.1.1 or Lollipop flavour. Motorola adds very little in the form of customisation or its own apps to the Android operating system. With the promise of an update to Google’s latest, Marshmallow version of Android very soon, Motorola plans to trim back its custom apps even further, retiring apps like Moto Assist and Moto Migrate as the extra functionality they offer is already built into the next version of the operating system.

The Moto X Play offers great hardware that goes beyond just specifications and provides real world advantages to Moto owners. This, combined with a nearly untouched version of the latest Android release from Google makes the Moto X Play a phone that is likely to be one of the hottest selling Android devices of the next few months.
