Google now requires access to more files

As part of Googles’ on-going updates some of you may have received a waring that certain files on your site can not be accessed by Googlebot.

Specifically, Google now requires access to resources that previously were routinely blocked in a sites robots.txt file. In order to access and fully render a page fully, Googlebot now needs to access all.css and.js files. Google says:

"These files help Google understand that your website works properly, so blocking access to these assets can result in sub-optimal rankings."

Google considers this particularly relevant to renderings and accessing the ‘Mobile Friendly‘ status of a site.

In short, you will get penalised if these files are not accessable. So make sure you are not blocking any of these file types. If you are in any doubt test your site with Webmaster Tools and make the necessary adjustments.
