Dr. Ammar Idlibi is a pediatric dentist that has been working in the field for many years. He has taken a special interest in child and developmental psychology because of the role it plays in his profession. Working in pediatrics requires some special knowledge and studying that other doctors and dentists don’t necessarily need. For those interested though, it is a complex and fascinating field.

Developmental psychology is the scientific study of how humans develop over the course of their lives. The discipline was once primarily focused on infants and children though now the field has expanded in order to include adolescence, adulthood, and aging, encompassing a human’s entire potential lifespan.

Developmental psychology is a field that examines a wide variety of topics, including moral understanding, language development, cognitive advancement, executive functions, personality, social change, identity formation, and more. The discipline is meant to study and understand how nature and nurture influence human development and all of the processes and faculties associated with typical human growth over time.

Professionals like Dr. Ammar Idlibi take an interest in the field for many reasons, whether to aid with a profession, or for the sake of research itself. Many researchers are interested in understanding how defining characteristics and personality traits interact with environmental factors, and what kind of pattered results can occur as a consequence. There are many debates that occur internally in the discipline, mostly revolving around whether nurture, or nature has the biggest impact on a human’s development.

Child development is a particularly well-studied field in developmental psychology. This time period is considered from a biological and psychological standpoint, to occur between a human’s birth, to the end of adolescence. The scholastic study of child development focuses on the individual progress from dependency, to complete autonomy. While the course of child development has a distinct, measurable pattern, every sequence of development is unique for each child, much like a fingerprint is unique to each person.

Though much of what causes maturation of a person is still left up to debate, most agree that it is the combined result of genetically-controlled processes coupled with learning and environmental factors.

Dr. Ammar Idlibi studied child psychology and development because he works as a pediatric dentist. Learning the developmental stages of a child helps Dr. Idlibi know how to cater to each individual patient, giving them the best experience based on their current developmental stage.
