With the mighty Himalayas in the north to the vast Indian Ocean in the south, the majestic Thar in the west to the mushy mangroves in the east, India is full of unexpected surprises – a country that will never cease to amaze you, no matter how many times you visit it.

Although it is hard to restrict to the underlying sights, these are those which are not to be missed for a fulfilling Indian holiday. Domestic flights and low cost airlines are available for nearby airports. Thereafter, the destinations can be reached by road or rail.

Munsiyari, Uttarakhand: Situated in Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand, Munsiyari is a breathtaking hill station with immense scenic beauty and great opportunities for trekking. Besides, it is also ideal for bird-watching and wildlife viewing.

Zanskar Valley, Ladakh: Zanskar is under snow for around eight months of the year. With the splendid mountain backdrop, the hilly landscape is truly mesmerizing. The area looks isolated with barely a soul on the way, there are just a few rural settlements. Trekking on the frozen Zanskar River and white water rafting are two popular adventure activities. Other interesting places are Zongkhul, Zangla, Penzella Pass and Karsha.

Sand Dunes, Jaisalmer: Silvery sand dunes dominate most parts of the city of Jaisalmer. The vast expanse of sweeping dunes formed out by the wind offer a breathtaking sight. Desert camps and camel rides are the best ways to explore the region and the unique flora and fauna of the desert.

Coral Reef, Lakshadweep: The coral reefs are found in Agatti Island, Kadmat Island, Kavaratti Island, Bangaram Island, Kalpeni Island and Minicoy Island. These untouched virgin reefs are home to rare sea weeds and plants. The islands are a haven of solitude for the laidback vacationers and a bustling spot for snorkeling and scuba diving. They offer endless possibilities for water adventures.

Sundarbans, West Bengal: A national park, a tiger reserve and a biosphere reserve in the eastern state of West Bengal, the Sundarbans is a paradise for tiger lovers. It covers an area of 4624 sq km and is home to more than 400 tigers. The park also offers a wide variety of birds, reptiles, salt-water crocodiles, fishing cats, leopards, macaques, mongoose and flying fox. The mangrove swamp consists of 64 species of plant life.

Backwaters, Kerala: The palm-fringed, serene backwaters of Kerala are the most popular attraction for Indian as well as international tourists. Stretching to almost 1,900 kilometres, they offer incomparable beauty and exceptional experiences. Vembanad Lake is the largest stretch of backwater while Alappuzha is widely famous for backwater boat trips.

The Valley of Flowers, Uttarakhand: The mystical valley, which is a UNESCO world heritage site, offers a diverse range of flora and fauna besides exemplary sights. It is also well-known for trekking.
