Hidimba Devi Temple Manali
Hidimba Devi Temple, is located in Man?li, a hill station in the State of Him?chal Pradesh in north India. Hadimba Temple in Kullu Manali is one of the main tourist places in Manali for the visitors. Is is around 1.5 kms from the Mall Road. There are numbers of hotels in manali on the way from Mall Road to Hamdimba temple. Hidimba Devi temple stands in the midst of a sacred cedar forest near the town of Dunghri at the verdant foot of the Himalaya mountains. The sanctuary is built over an enormous rock that juts out of the ground, worshipped as a manefestation of Durga, the "Hill Mother" or goddess of the earth. According to Hira Nand Shastri this temple is an antique of about 500 years old. There is noo idol is cherised and only a foot print on a stone has been kept. Raja Bahadur Singh Built hadimba temple in Manali and there is a fair being held every year known as Bahadur Singh Re Jatar among kullu manali local peoples. Birthday of Hadimba devi fair is also held on 14th May every year with music and dance.
The temple is rather unusual and is architecturally similar only to the temple of Tripura Sundari in Nagar. The Hidimba Devi temple is 24 meters tall and consists of three square roofs clad in timber tiles, surmounted by a cone-shaped fourth roof that is covered in brass. The Hidimba Devi temple is built around a cave where Hidimba performed meditation. Hidimba was supposed to have lived there with her brother Hidimb, and not much is known about their parents. Born into a Rakshas family, Hidimba vowed to marry one who would defeat her brother Hidimb, who was supposed to be very brave and fearless. During the Pandava's exile, when they visited Manali; Bhima, one of the five Pandavas, killed Hidimb. Thereafter, Hidimba married Bhima and gave birth to their son Ghatotkacha. About seventy metres away from the temple, there is a shrine dedicated to Goddess Hidimba's son, Ghatotkacha, who was born after she married Bhima. The most surprising feature of the temple or what believers could call the most reassuring feature of the temple is the fact that inside the temple the imprint of the feet of the Goddess carved on a block of stone are worshipped and, when zooming into the area where the temple is located via Google Satellite, the imprint of a giant foot spanning across the valley in the area near the temple can be seen.
