Everybody is aware of the booming growth of the cell phone market in recent years, especially the smartphone sector. This, in turn, increases the market for mobile repair services and allows new business to enter each day.

Talking just about the capital of the country, Delhi, the size of this unorganized sector is approximately 50 crore. The mobile repairing institutes in Delhi combine together to be a cumulative market of approximately 15 crores in size. Two major regions in Delhi where most of the institutes for mobile repairing are based out of are Karol Bagh and Moti Nagar. Karol Bagh is a house of around 7 big institutes and more than other 100 of smaller institutes.

Some of these institutes in North also provide mobile repairing course in Hindi. Many students enroll in these short term courses as they are assured of getting returns in this industry. Such courses do not require any prior qualification or knowledge of English language. Most of the individuals who enroll for this course are 10th -12th standard pass outs who are seeking for setting up their own mobile repairing shop and need to brush up their basics of mobile repairing or the ones who want diploma degrees without investing much money. A student can earn up to Rs. 30,000 after successfully completing the course and working as a mobile repair engineer or executive.

A standard Cellular repair school has courses varying from 3-6 months depending upon the nature of the course. Trends show that once the warranty of a mobile device is over, people prefer to get it repaired from the repair shops rather than going to the authorized service center. This trend has emerged due to the higher cost of repair at the service center and decreasing lifetime of a handset with a customer. Nowadays people change their mobile phones frequently and hence do not want to spend much repairing them for reuse.

A typical mobile repair course comprises of three stages, first being understanding the basics of mobile phone technology, second being fault finding and tracing. The third and final stage helps the students to diagnose the problem and finally repair it.

The cost of setting up a mobile repair shop is very low and hence a majority of the students that pass out of this course open up their own business. There is also a category of students who cannot set up their own business and hence work at businesses set up by someone else at least for the initial period of time. The highly skilled ones can get mobile repairing engineer jobs in big service centers (usually brand authorized service centers) and can earn up to Rs. 50,000 per month.

Though unorganized, this sector is a promising one with assured returns for the right skill. It is easy to learn and operate as everything is mostly based on the basics of mobile phone technology. The returns are good whether you tend to open your own business or work as a certified repair engineer in brand authorized service center!
