Body Piercing Safe Practices
Posted: Feb 11, 2014
Piercing is attractive as it unveils a different makeover of the same person. Teens across the globe are really gung-ho about piercing their various body parts and delineate their best appearance among their peers. Derived from one of the ethnic groups, western piercing is very well-received as a growing trend in most countries.
Work Area and Use of Chemicals
However, there are certain best practices every piercer needs to follow for a safe piercing. Piercers need to keep the work area clean and hygienic. Alcoholic hand rub and cleanser should not be used and ideally, piercing should be done in a separate operating bench or couch which is adjustable as per the requirements of the clients. The disinfectants and cleaning products used in the piercing shop should be used only after going through the manufacturer’s catalog. The cleaning products used for piercing equipments and supplies should not be used for cleaning the skin of the person. In fact, they should be sterilized with different chemicals available in the market.
Equipments and Skin Treatment
Powder, liquids or spray can be used to clean the instruments whereas; for the skin an alcoholic disinfectant spray is widely used. Piercer should also use disposable gloves, while applying piercing. The hands should be properly washed before wearing the gloves. If latex gloves are used, the gloves should low protein content so to avoid a latex allergy. A single use plastic apron is also worn by many piercers so that they get an extra layer of protection while performing piercing.
Waste Disposal and Quality Supplies
All the piercing equipments and supplies should be procured from genuine suppliers like AAB Style. There are various body piercing equipments and needles available in the market, but choose the supplier that provides consistent good quality sterile pack of needles. Certain equipments or needles used in piercing are one-time usable and thus; such needles or equipments should be disposed of correctly. If reused, it can cause skin allergy or even a life and death situation for a client. Carry a separate container for sharp disposals, do not leave the sharp disposals on the floor and do not leave the container in-house for a longer duration. Drop the waste and disposal at a designated area to ensure that no one is harmed with the sharp infectious needles or other equipments.
First-Aid and Cautiousness
As a piercer, one needs to be careful about the customer experience. There are many piercing shops in the USA and to stand out from the competitors; piercing shops need to be extra customer centric. Shops need to have the first aid box so that, if someone is injured by piercing equipments and supplies, the basic level of treatment could be provided right away. Before starting the piercing, do check with your client if he is on medication of any sort. Certain medicines increase bleeding and in such cases, it might be fatal to go ahead and perform piercing. If the piercing is already performed and the bleeding doesn't stop, please consider calling a physician for better medical aid.About US:
