Eco Tourism in Catalonia
Posted: May 05, 2017
Many people dream about swimming with dolphins, see the surroundings underwater, watch and touch the dolphins and play with them but here’s something a little different; how about swimming with bluefin tuna? Eco tourism is becoming a huge attraction for people taking a holiday in Spain, and swimming with tuna at a sustainable Mediterranean tuna farm is a fantastic experience.
Eco Tourism in Catalonia
Eco tourism is all about encouraging visitors to look after and care for the environment, teaching them more about the local area, it’s vulnerabilities, and demonstrating how we can all help to do our part for the environment. Tuna tours take place in the Terres de I'Ebre region of Catalonia, where it’s not only possible to swim with endangered bluefin tuna, but also learn more about sustainable fishing methods.
The Tuna Tour
The Tuna Tour leaves from Ametlla de Mar for a 30 minute catamaran ride into the depths of the Mediterranean Sea. Sailing away, you’ll get a great view of the coastline, as well as the beautiful villas on the Costa Dorada. The bathing season lasts from June to October, so plan your trip accordingly.
Although this is open sea swimming in the Mediterranean, the tuna pool is completely enclosed, making it safe for both you and the fish. You’ll be provided with a wet suit, so you can keep your swimsuit clean and dry, ready to throw on once you get back to your villa with private pool on the Costa Dorada.
Ametlla de Mar
If a Costa Dorada vacation rental sounds good, then definitely consider staying in Ametlla de Mar. This is a place with gorgeous beaches, plenty of water sports, great museums, a few castles, and a truly fantastic view. As one of Catalonia’s primary fishing ports, the local seafood is delicious (and much of it is sustainable, too. The great thing about this town is that it’s big enough to have lots of things for single travelers, couples and families to enjoy, and yet small enough to still retain a small fishing town feel.
I think as a traveler you should plan a tuna tour to get experiences and grab up the opportunities towards joy.
