Your wedding will be the most memorable and beautiful day of your life, and the setting for such a momentous event should be nothing short of perfection. If balmy breezes, ocean waves, and sun-kissed sands are your siren's song, having your wedding in gorgeous Costa Rica would be a dream come true.

Weddings in Costa Rica are not as hard to plan as it may appear at first. Once your documentation is handled, a beach resort that specializes in weddings can take care of the other details. Many resorts have wedding packages in place and a planner on staff to make the whole process come together seamlessly. However, there are some important things you need to know if you plan on getting married in Costa Rica.

Important Information for Planning a Wedding in Costa Rica

Couples planning weddings in Costa Rica must make sure they have obtained all the necessary documents, as well as having witnesses present for the event. Costa Rican weddings require two witnesses that can attest that both the bride and groom are legally allowed to wed.

To marry in Costa Rica, the bride and groom must provide:

? Their original birth certificates

Their police records

Divorce decrees (if applicable)

Two witnesses

Passports

The bride and groom, as well as the two witnesses, must all provide valid passports. As neither social security cards or driver's licenses are recognized as proper identification for the marriage to take place in Costa Rica, make sure to procure your passports ahead of time.

Once you have collected all the required documentation, it must be sent to the Costa Rican embassy located in the United States. The embassy will send the documents back to you along with necessary tax stamps attached. These papers must then be sent to the Costa Rica resort handling the wedding.

Send the proper documentation at least ten days ahead of the wedding date to ensure the resort has plenty of time to receive and review the paperwork, and let you know in case you forgot anything, or if something about the details might cause any issues.

With all the necessary documentation filed and out of the way, you can relax and focus on all the details that will make your big day truly magical. When you set foot in tropical Costa Rica, you can soak in the beauty, breathe in the revitalizing sea air, and know that the most amazing journey of your lifetime has just begun.
