Posted: Jul 18, 2017
Cochin University of Science & Technology Common Admission Test (CUSAT CAT) is a national level entrance examination conducted by the Cochin University of Science and Technology for its undergraduate engineering programs for various institutions across the state of Kerala. CUSAT CAT 2017 was conducted in the month of April.
CUSAT CAT 2017 paper pattern:
Cusat CAT was conducted in online mode at various centres across the country and CUSAT CAT results were announced in the month of May. In the exam, 75 questions were asked from Physics, 50 questions asked from Chemistry and 125 questions asked from Mathematics. There were total 250 questions of 750 marks that need to be answered in 240 minutes. The exam was conducted in two sessions. During the first session, Paper 1 was conducted that consist of Mathematics paper while in the second session Paper 2 was conducted which includes Physics and Chemistry questions. Three marks were given for each correct answer marked while one mark was deducted for every wrong answer marked. The CUSAT CAT 2017 paper was easy as compared to JEE Main but was time taking paper and some questions were confusing.
CUSAT Paper 1 Analysis:
CUSAT Paper 1 comprises of Mathematics paper. The Mathematics paper was the toughest paper among all. Solving 125 questions of mathematics in 120 minutes was a hectic task. The candidate had less than one minute for each question to solve. In this situation the best strategy in to solve the easiest question first and leave the tough and time-consuming questions to be solved at the end. Also, it is advisable not to devote much time to a single question. A good practice of mathematical calculation can help the student in solving maximum questions with speed and accuracy.
CUSAT Paper 2 Analysis:
Paper 2 comprises of questions from Physics and Chemistry. In paper 2 also the candidate need to solve 125 questions in 120 minutes. But, here Physics questions were easiest to solve and were asked straight from the Modern Physics NCERT. There were fewer questions of numerical hence the Physics section was easy to complete in less time. Chemistry questions were moderate to solve. The candidates who had prepared well for the exam had not faced many problems in solving the Chemistry questions.
How To Prepare:
To prepare for the upcoming CUSAT CAT paper, the candidate needs to analyse the previous papers and get to know about the pattern of questions asked in Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry. After a well-organized preparation, the student has to practice questions and mock tests within the time limit so the candidate can attempt that maximum number of questions in the main examination. CUSAT CAT is a game of time and speed; a special emphasis needs to be given on increasing the solving speed.
CUSAT CAT 2018 will be conducted in the month of April next year. There is a lot of time left to prepare well for the exam. The students can use the analysis to augment the preparation of the exam.
