After crossing the age of 40 years, most people get in the clasp of arthritis and experience pain and stiffness in doing their everyday tasks. It’s common people ignoring such problems at their initial stage when they can be cured easily with quick medication recommendations and experiencing severe pain later in future. When the pain and stiffness become extremely serious and it doesn’t allow a person to conduct their routine activities actively, they are suggested to go for a knee replacement in South Delhi. A knee replacement increases the mobility and decreases the pain and rigidity. More than 90% of patients who have undergone a surgery experienced less pain and greater mobility in their knee after the surgical treatment. However, before moving into the decision, it is a safe side to know the different types of knee surgeries that are suggested by the orthopedic surgeons.

  • Total knee replacement – The surgery involves replacing the joint surfaces at the end of femur (thigh bone) and at the top of tibia (shin bone). It may also implicate replacing the patella, an under-surface of the knee cap, with a smooth plastic vault. The surgeons try to preserve the natural patella but, at times, the critical situation demands to replace it and the surgeons have to make a decision in the mid of surgery.
  • Kneecap replacement – Observing the medical condition, it is not essential to undergo total knee replacement in South Delhi as it is possible to replace just the patella (an under-surface of the kneecap) and its groove (trochlea). Replacing just the affected parts by arthritis is called a Patellofmoral replacement. However, the surgeons suggest undergo the total knee replacement surgery because the arthritis may progress to other parts of the knee.
    • Complex or revision knee replacement – Patients suggested for such treatment is because:
    • Major bone loss due to fracture or arthritis
    • Major deformity of the knee
    • Weaken main knee ligaments.

Replacement in such cases usually has a longer stem allowing the replaced parts to be more securely fixed into the bone cavity. The parts get interlocked in the middle of the knee forming a hinge to give a better stability.

    • Partial knee replacement – There are three compartments – the medial (inner), the lateral (outer), and the patellofemoral (kneecap). The surgeons suggest going for partial knee replacement in South Delhi if only either of the parts is affected by arthritis. As the procedure involves less intrusion, it usually gets recovered quickly.
