Creating a Healthy, Efficient and Positive Work Environment

Apart from solely job responsibilities, the most important things that influence employee motivation and happiness, and how productive they are, depends also on their working environment.

If you give it a thought, if your work environment is ‘positive’, that means you will fit well into the work culture of that organization. You are on good terms with your superiors, your peers and your co-workers, you feel comfortable working in the office, and at the end of the day, you will look back at it as a positive experience, you’ll find that you are much more satisfied and productive.

Every organization needs to create and sustain a healthy work environment in order to be able to attract the best talent, and retain their employees, boost employee morale and to create a healthy and stress-free environment to work in.

Below are a few such tips which would help you understand how to do so as an HR:

  1. Open CommunicationGood communication is the most essential part of an effective working space. Supporting two-way communication between team members and across hierarchical figures and having an open door policy ensures that a strong network of communication is being established which in turn would make working much more easier and productive for everyone right from the top of the organization to the bottom. This method also helps in idea-generation, boosting creativity and encouraging contribution from employees all across the organization, which is very useful in small to medium businesses.
  2. Peer Reviews & Feedback Usually feedback from peers is allocated for occasional reviews. But it should be flexible enough to become a part of the weekly routine so that employees can receive and share feedback without dampening anyone’s ego or hurting them. Open recognition of achievements is also very important to promote motivation and improve performances. Also, recognition of problems within the team and quickly addressing the issues will help to promote a healthy work environment.
  3. Providing Educational ResourcesOften work relies on tools and apps that new hires may not be familiar with. And given the flexible nature of some jobs, help may not always be available. A healthy work environment must have resources in place online for employees to depend on for assistance on certain topics required to fulfill their role and to fire up their curiosities.
  4. Positive Working EnvironmentA positive working environment is when it comes to creating a good overall work environment. Always remember that a healthy, efficient and positive work environment is a big part of the organizational culture, and like I said, can have a big impact on its ability to attract the right kind of talent, and the top human resource.

It is also essential to know that organizational culture – and indeed, working environment – ‘comes from the top.’ An entrepreneur’s big responsibility is to create, develop and nurture the right kind of working environment for everyone to function in the organization.
