Convention in an Unconventional Way!

It was just last year that I, a professional classical dancer, a Kathak artist, to be more precise, was handed over a huge responsibility by my mentor. On behalf of my mentor’s Kathak academy, I was supposed to organise a huge classical dance convention in Bangalore, in which a good number of classical dance stalwarts had been invited to conduct workshops, to speak about their different dance forms and educate the young dancers who were interested to attend this convention.

Thanks to Bangalore for being the IT capital of our country, which usually leads to a lot of IT conventions that are generally held here in Bangalore. This made my life little easier to look out for all kinds of venues to decide.

I looked up for all kinds of convention halls in Bangalore. All of them were of course, suitable for any business convention. But the convention I was about to organise, had little different requirements. To start with, I needed a huge area. I needed a good amount of empty space, or even better if a stage could be set up, for the little teaching sessions and for the talks. A good amount of empty space right before the stage, for the students to absorb whatever they were being imbibed with. My other petty requirements were microphones of different levels, a sound system with good output and, a very good arrangement for refreshments.

After I jotted down each and every requirement for this classical dance convention, I realised that it was really too much to ask from anybody who is going to lend me their space. That too not for just one day, but, for 5-whole days.

As my list of convention halls got shrunken, I finally landed at the one, which was known to be one of the best banquet halls in Bangalore. On being enquired, they told me that they can make arrangements for a convention with literally all my requirements.

Everything was finalised. The D-day had come. I was extremely nervous about how things would turn out. I may have travelled the world for my tours and concerts, but this time, I had literally invited the whole fraternity of classical dance of Bangalore and from the whole country. I was at least happy with the number of dance enthusiasts that were going to attend, as the venue was a very popular one, which was easily accessible to everyone, either coming by bus, car or metro.

After this huge convention was over, I could make a sigh of relief. I was very happy with the services provided by the staff. Everything was in order and under control. In the end, my mentor and I, both were very happy with the decision of our venue.
