Decided that your next big trip is going to be a wildlife holiday but can’t quite find an itinerary to suit you? Why not consider one of the many tailormade wildlife holidays on offer? The top companies appreciate that clients’ time is precious and they want more from their holiday than many standard itineraries offer. To this end, they may offer a bespoke service, which invites clients to design their own tailormade wildlife holidays.

Amazing Places to Include On Tailormade Wildlife Holidays to Costa Rica

Costa Rica is a haven for wildlife enthusiasts; Carara, in the northernmost region of the Pacific rainforest, is a perfect introduction. Close to San Jose, this is one of the most popular parks in the country. Birdlife is prolific here and, because of its location in the transition zone between the tropical dry forests of the northern west and the rainforests of the north, there is a wide variety of species. King Vultures and Great Tinamou grace the skies here, while the Mangrove Cuckoo and Hummingbird can be spotted lower in the marshlands.

Monteverde is one of the most incredible cloud forests in the world and boasts 2.5% of worldwide biodiversity. It is a fact that 10% of the flora in this forest is endemic, and thankfully the forest is at the heart of many a conservation effort, research project and education programme. These programmes are funded by entrance fees from visitors, who are treated to a prime example of sustainable wildlife tourism. It is in this forest that you can step on the Continental Divide and have one foot on the Pacific side and one on the Caribbean side – it makes for a fun photo opportunity.

If you fancy stretching your legs, why not include the Arenal Volcano on the itinerary of your tailormade wildlife holidays? This stunning volcano dominates its surrounding area and makes for a spectacular scene set against the horizon. Forests spread across its area and rivers and waterfalls dot the landscape. The lake of the same name stands just south of the volcano and is well worth a visit.

A visit to the lovely province of Heredia is a popular trip for visitors to Costa Rica. Riding the white waters of the river that runs through the area, you are likely to see monkeys and plenty of birds too. This area is part of the Braulio Carrillo National Park; here, eco-tourism is a priority and there are several scientific research stations. There is a profitable production of coffee, corn, cocoa and bananas, among other crops, which has made a difference to the local communities here.
