Back in 1990 at a battery conference, a speaker said that the battery for the phones must also resemble the battery of a watch. As the battery of the watch stays for at least a year, the battery of the phones must be powering it on for 2 to 3 weeks. In late 90's the battery improved, and phones started to get over a week of battery life with the communication only by SMS and Calls on 2G and 1G network. But today it is a touchscreen phone, with GPS facility, graphics intensive games, and much more. Manufacturers are struggling hard to deliver at least a day of battery for most of the part.

There are several gaming applications available on the Play Store. However, it is also a fact that using gaming apps for a long time leads to high consumption of the battery. Hence, the battery of the phones just last for a maximum of 5 Hours when playing the game continuously. So, let us talk about all the gizmos and features that a phone uses while playing games on our devices, so we can better judge about the battery usage by the game.

  1. GPSThere are a number of location based gaming apps, including Zombie, Run, which require you to keep your GPS on. If we take ‘Pokemon Go’ as an instance, the game requires to use the coordinates to display the nearby Pokémon’s, and hence your GPS is constantly being connected via the satellites and hence the battery is consumed, not only in the GPS signals but also the CPU power used to run the GPS signal analyzer.
  2. DisplayMost of the phones come with a large display with a high resolution, the display turns to be one of the most power consuming device on the phone. A number of gaming apps are mostly used in outdoor conditions hence the display will be set at its highest setting and hence will utilize more than 400mW per minute which is quite high.
  3. CameraSome gaming apps also utilize the camera of the phone, which makes it to power on again and again, Hence the battery is also sucked by the camera although we can save it by disabling the camera for the game.
  4. ProcessorAll the activities are managed by the Processor it takes input from the network, GPS, Camera and combines all of them to give us the experience, hence it will also be consuming around the same battery as the display.

5. GSMYou need to be connected via the network so that you can coordinate with the servers of the game in case of location-based gaming apps. Hence, the GSM tower antennas of your phone will be connected and utilize the power.

In order to save a bit of battery while playing the game here are some tips:

  • Close other
network consuming apps
  • Dim the brightness of the screen• Use the phone in battery saver mode.• Turn off wi-fi and Bluetooth, and even disable the sound so speaker unit doesn’t consume power.• Download the local maps on Google Maps.

With these tips, you will be able to enjoy your gaming sessions to get that refreshing break and save your phone battery.
