Resetting password on safe mode

Safe mode is an alternative way to boot up your Laptop or PC and can be used to reset your password.

  1. Turn your HP laptop off. Wait for a while then turn it on again.
  2. After the HP screen loads but before windows open, press F8.
  3. Select "Safe Mode" from the advanced options menu.
  4. Select the administrator account.
  5. From the start menu go to Control Panel.
  6. Select Users Account.
  7. Select the account with the password you want to reset.
  8. Choose change password from the option and follow the instructions stated.

Using HP Recovery Manager

HP Laptops have a built-in Recovery Manager that is made for situations like this. By using this feature you refresh the primary disk of your laptop thus removing the password as well.

  1. Turn your laptop off. After a while power it on again.
  2. Continuously press F11 on your laptop select HP Recovery Manager.
  3. Once the program loads choose System Recovery.
  4. The Program will now install the necessary programs and remove your password.
  5. After this, you can restart your HP laptop and you won’t need a password to get in.

By now you have already accessed your laptop again. Sadly you noticed that all your files are gone and even if you regained access to your laptop. Your presentation for the meeting is gone.

The best thing you can do in this case is to prepare for situations like this. Here are bonus tips on how you can be more prepared when you lose your password.

  • Store all your password on your phone or other devices to make sure you never get locked out again.
  • Write your passwords in a notebook and keep it with you at all times. This is a scenario when traditional note taking is a huge help.
  • Use cloud storage services like Google Drive or Onedrive to store important files. This allows you to access important files from any device as long as you remember the password accounts.
  • Backup your files on an external hard drive. Make backing up your files a priority.
