The fourth largest city in the Kingdom of Morocco, Marrakech is an important cultural and trading centre in the Northwest African region. Among the major characteristics of this city is its red walls, which were built during the 12th century by the Almoravids. Marrakech got nicknamed as the 'Red City' owing to these red sandstone walls and some attractive buildings that were constructed mainly during this period. This Moroccan city is especially popular among the French tourists and many of the French celebrities own properties in this part of the world.

You can enjoy cheap Marrakech holidays if you visit the city during the autumn months from September to November. During this time of the year, you can experience a pleasant climate with comfortable daytime temperatures. This creates ideal conditions for you to enjoy sightseeing and other outdoor activities. Spring season from March to May is another great season to visit Marrakech if you're looking for an affordable holiday. Rainfall is experienced in the city in its winter months from December to February. Plenty of tourists visit during Christmas and sporting events like the Marrakech Grand Prix and hotels won't be willing to reduce their room rates during this season.

It is, therefore, advisable to book well in advance if you intend to visit the city during its winter season. The high tourist season of this Moroccan city is the summer months from June to August. A major attraction you can visit during your Marrakech holidays is Djemaa El Fna, which is a large square and a bustling marketplace full of stalls, musicians, snake-charmers, and fortune-tellers. Dar Si Said Museum of Moroccan Arts and Crafts is another exciting place to explore. It has an excellent collection of artefacts, such as oil lamps, embroidered leather, and Berber jewellery.

Manara Gardens is also worth visiting during your cheap holidays to Marrakech for its olive groves and a large reflective pool with an attractive pavilion. You can have loads of fun while indulging in some adventurous outdoor activities in the city and its surrounding areas. Among them is mountain biking on the Atlas mountains, which would give you the chance to discover some remote parts of Marrakech and the life of their Berber inhabitants. Jet skiing can be enjoyed on Lake Lalla Takerkoust, an artificial lake at the foothills of Atlas mountains. You can also find several local tour operators who arrange canyoning trips in the Ourika Valley.

During your time spent in Marrakech, you can also try some delectable dishes from the Morrocan cuisine in the local restaurants or food stalls. One of them is 'Couscous' or 'Seksu', prepared by steaming fine wheat pasta over a stew of vegetables and meat. Also known as 'Moroccan whisky', the mint tea is something you can enjoy after a heavy meal or when you wish to relax after a busy day of travelling. You can't afford to miss the tagine, which is a restaurant dish made by cooking vegetables and meat in a pot made of clay and served with bread.
